Silent protest, boycott greet Wiccan priestess at Iowa House

DES MOINES — What would Jesus do?

If he were a member of the Iowa Legislature, Rep. Rob Taylor believes he would peacefully protest the morning prayer by a Wiccan priestess.

So the West Des Moines Republican turned his back Thursday and prayed silently as Cedar Rapids Cabot witch Deborah Maynard appealed to “god, goddess, universe, that which is greater than ourselves.”

Many of his colleagues chose not to attend the daily prayer. But Taylor said that after praying over it, he decided the appropriate response would be to “be in the presence of a prayer, but peacefully protest.”

Despite his protest and the boycott by more than a third of the House members, Maynard thought it went well.

If I were Taylor I would not stand close to someone who has obviously cursed herself.

Rep. Rob Taylor believes he (Christ) would peacefully protest the morning prayer by a Wiccan priestess.

I don't think there would be anything peaceful about it. He wasn't shy about rebuking Satan and I doubt he would have engaged in some wimpy "protest."

More WWJD inanity.

Jesus got after people with a whip for people mishandling money. I agree—I doubt he would just “peacefully protest” such an abomination.

The left smells blood in the water as far as the culture war goes.
It’s going to be interesting to watch.

This is silly. The goddess of Corn is worshipped in Iowa.

This is a test. The lefties are seeing how tolerant we are of “other religions”. America has freedom of religion. It doesn’t say just Christianity. But religion, no matter what you believe. So let it be and move on. Don’t protest. The Wicken religion has been around a while. If that is their choice, let them .

Thank you. it's very cute. I'll share it with a couple of my simpler female cousins who actually believe they're witches.

One of our direct ancestors was hung in Salem, MA July 16, 1692 after being convicted of being a witch. As she was being murdered she put a curse on the people, saying "Your descendants will be infested with DemoncRATs."

The Kennedy's, Barney Frank, and Elizabeth Warren are the result.

As it is for Catholics, my former, to practice theirs. The point here is that most religions, including the converse, do not infringe on others' rights.

The single greatest infringement, quantitatively, by the religion-that-isn't (islam, the socio-political preachings masquerading as a religion), is that against our Constitutional freedoms. Liberal-atheist zealots fall under that banner as well.

My point for this thread is 'don't knock Wiccans'. This IS a test. Those that do fail that test.

But knock islam all you like: It doesn't pass the religion smell-test...

And the liberal-athiest anti-Christians? Karma's a b!tch.

I attended a Unitarian funeral some years back.
I couldn’t tell who the mourners were, who the preacher was, who died or much else.
People came in, said nothing and left. Curious...

Listen, we don’t behead them, but by golly, I honor anyone that sticks to the Commandment in Exodus 20:3 - Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

This is a response to all who replied. I wish I could see some humor in it but after what my ancestors went through with this craziness, who needs it? But there's a lot of this now and we have to tolerate it. May any of their spells or curses rebound back on them.

Many believe that because of what happened in the past to some innocents that witchcraft doesn't exist. Not so as we see here.

Jesus *might* have performed an exorcism on her. And it wouldn't have been pretty.

Test or not, corn goddess or not, it's my state and we don't need this spiritual garbage. Now that she has done her thing, are they going to give equal time to a Satanist?

A while back, the Iowa House invited a Muslim to give the invocation. He prayed for victory over infidels.

If someone asks What Would Jesus Do? Remind them that flipping tables over and chasing people with a whip is not beyond the realm of possibilities!

Now that you mention it, I vaguely remember that.

They may have what seems like a victory at some point but it will be temporary. I think we should be encouraged by all the Christians who took a stand for the faith.

Maybe it's time they eliminate a formal prayer or just have a silent one. What good have they ever done?

I guess I have to support the First Amendment rights of the Wiccan and Satanists and Santeria, etc. I do so grudgingly though.

Such things have nothing to do with the First Amendment. It’s about ceding control of American culture to its enemies.

History is filled with examples of aggressive minorities taking over much lager populations with opponents to the takeover eventually murdered.

Where is this thread going after I post? I don't see it in the forum. If the mods put it in another category other than news/activism, I don't see it under religion, chat or the sidebar. I'll see if it shows up this time.

The Constitution trumps culture. I agree they are enemies and it degrades our culture, what is left of it.

Your second paragraph said another way, usually the bad guys win unless somebody stronger is able and willing to intervene.
