California legislative leaders took a bold step Tuesday toward protecting immigrants living in the country without documentation by backing legislation to offer Medi-Cal and other public services to a population they said they want to help move out of the shadows.

The leaders of the California Senate and Assembly joined lawmakers and advocates in announcing the “Immigrants Shape California” legislative package at a press conference in Sacramento, saying the federal government’s inaction on immigration reform forced them to act.

Lara said 30 percent of undocumented immigrants can afford to pay into the state’s health insurance exchange without subsidies.

So we would have to subsidize 70% of them and that's a good thing?

Remember 187?

“Ju cannot make a law about eeem-ee-gration!” they screamed.

Lectures on the Constitution from Mexico.

So, uh...if we can’t make a law prohibiting them from getting taxpayer freebies, how come the Legislature can make a law which does give it to them?

Thought they said only the Federal Gobermint could legislated such things.

Oh! My mistake! It’s only Un-Constitutional when you’re trying to prohibit freebies, not when you’re trying to forbid them.

California’s got plenty of water and food - they can easily take in another few hundred million third world types...

If they truly want to cut back on water usage in California, I do have a suggestion.

I'm not sure they'll want to hear it. No, I'm certain they won't want to hear it!

All the problems we have, and this is what our "law makers breakers" decide to focus on.

Huh. So illegals do become a drag on the state in spite of what amnesty advocates say.

Does jeb bush approve of illegals on welfare I wonder.

This is great news as it should cause a mass migration to the Bear State of illegal aliens wanting all of these “free” services, thereby hastening the state’s financial destruction and reducing the burdens on the other states.

The federal government will provide an estimated $17 billion in 2015-16 to support health care services for Californians who enroll in Medi-Cal due to federal health care reform. Wonder what this will grow to when illegals become eligible?

Correction:

Federal taxpayers, of the 50 States, will be forced to provide $17B+ to CA illegals....

Not only should that piss off CA taxpayers, but that ROYALLY piss off the taxpayers in the other 49 States...

If CA wants to pander to the criminals, that’s theirs to work-out (IMO, that Fed should be coming down on these ‘sanctuaries’ like they did to AZ duplicitous immigration law(s)), but keep the rest of the taxpayers $$ OUT of the mix!

This is the problem when you have lawmakers that A. Don't remember who their voting constituent are and B. Are more concerned with La Raza than with American Citizens. We have a resident whose primary concerns are A. Destroying America and B. Supporting and advancing Islam so all the other democrats follow his lead. And sorry and sad to say California is not the only state heading this this anti America slope.
