Arkansas House passes its own "religious freedom" bill

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- The Arkansas House of Representatives passed a "religious freedom" bill similar to the controversial measure in Indiana. The bill now heads to Gov. Asa Hutchinson's desk for signing into law.

Hutchinson said that he would approve the measure if it made it to his office, CBS News affiliate KTVH in Little Rock reported. The Arkansas version of the bill -- HB 1228 -- would prevent state and local governments from infringement on someone's religious beliefs unless there were a "compelling" reason.

Like the Indiana law, opponents say it would foster discrimination against the gay and lesbian community.

Local leaders and businesses including Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola, the Little Rock Chamber of Commerce, and Acxiom Corporation have released statements urging Gov. Hutchinson to veto the bill.

Not too surprising. Many counties around Little Rock Arkansas are "dry."

In other words, Arkansas is backward.

Given that, the word "bigot" also applies. Webster has it as ...

"bigot" ... "1. a person who holds blindly and intolerantly to a particular creed, opinion, etc." ... "2. a narrow minded, , prejudiced person."

Think about it.

It’s nice to see some push-back from the right. Zero your sights and fire for effect.

I don't know how effective these laws will be and you can be sure the left and their gay agenda will set someone up to prove the evil republicans discriminate against gays. It just gins up their base to make false claims. Why give them ammunition

The Arkansas Governor should say I’m the 2nd Arkansas Governor with Bill Clinton being the 1st to sign Religious Freedom, he should go word for word verbatim as to what Bill Clinton said on 11/16/93

I am sick of hearing how homosexuals are supposed to have more rights than those people who have the 1st amendment and what this country was founded on.

And since when have they been concerned for anyone’s rights but their own? They're progressives/liberals so they only seek what serves themselves.....but they are masters at wearing masks of diversity, multiculturalism, (multi-cults) etc.....to deceive with.

Agree this country was founded on religious freedom and now they want to end that so they can advance their homosexual agenda.
Every time you put the TV on, the radio on, and see the papers it’s all about homosexuality.

They are the most intolerant hateful lot ever and yet they shut tolerance.

They should have passed a law that’s a clone of Connecticut’s, just to highlight Moron Malloy

Many of the counties in Texas are dry, too. We are bigots as well.

If the Repubs are going to cave like they did in Indiana they might as well not bother.

Have you been paying attention at all? The courts are running wild pushing the homosexual agenda. Redefinition of marriage by decree by a lawyer in a black robe in over 30 states. Threatening to jail businessmen or actually doing it if some homosexual activist cannot force them to bend to their wishes (so to speak).

To the contrary, if we see politicians stand up to them that will “gin up” our base like they turned out in 2014.

The sodomites force small business out of business that refuse to sanction sodomy. And the libtards don’t give a damn.

I was just going through the channels and websites. I am surprised even for me how dumb the left are over this law. They have acted like drama queens and must have never done any research into the law
