In his eight years in the Senate, South Carolina’s former Sen. Jim DeMint was hugely powerful as an ideological leader, using his base in the conservative movement—and later, the Tea Party—to pull Republicans to the right during the 2012 presidential election. He enforced ideological discipline, and it worked. Warren doesn’t have to lead the Democrats—or run for president—to make the party more liberal. She can build power from the outside.
If liberals want someone to lead Senate Democrats, they should look to longtime Washington Sen. Patty Murray, who is the fourth-ranking Democrat in the caucus. She’s the dark horse in the race—behind New York Sen. Chuck Schumer, who has been endorsed by Reid as well his potential competitor, Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin—and has a solid record of progressive lawmaking, strong fundraising, and legislative savvy; in the last year, she’s negotiated a budget agreement with Rep. Paul Ryan and won a filibuster-proof majority for paid sick leave. She’s not perfect—some liberals will look askance at her tight connections to defense contractors and other big businesses—but compared with Schumer and his tight ties to Wall Street, she’s a vast improvement.

Dumb Patty could say anything stupid (as she often does) and would still get re-elected by the hard core liberal dems in Washington state. It doesn’t matter. She is a liberal place-holder who votes for anything the dem leadership tells her to. Her original campaign theme to get elected was a “mom in tennis shoes”. She has only gotten more stupid since.
It is not right to insult rocks.

She also does constituent services like no bodies business. Nobody buys votes better than her.

Saw some very interesting numbers yesterday, from a “Weekly Standard” e-newsletter, as I recall.
46% of the people who voted for Barack Obama in 2012 were non-white.
But, less than 10% of Democrat Senators and Governors are non-white.
Also, as recently as 2012, no Black Democrat has ever been elected from a majority white Congressional District.
In sharp contrast, the “racist” Republican Party, which gets only 5% of the Black vote, has elected 3 Black Republicans from majority white Congressional Districts!
I calculated the exact numbers.
Only 4.6% of the Democrat Senators and Governors are non-white.
Two are native born Hawaiians.
One is a Black Senator, Cory Booker, from New Jersey.
I counted 3 “Independents” as Democrat.
Two are Senators who caucus with the Democrats.
One is the “Independent” Governor of Alaska, a former Republican, who chose the Democrat nominee as his running mate!
So, that means 6% of the “multicultural diverse” Democrat Senators and Governors are non-white.
But, 7% of the “racist” Republican Senators and Governors are non-white!
Republicans - two Asian Indian Governors, two Cuban Senators, one Black Senator, one Mexican governor.
That's why she, and not Upchuck, should get the job.
