A U.S. surveillance helicopter hovering over the Rio Grande spots a body floating near a muddy bank on the Mexican side of the river.
Soon another body turns up, then another. A Mexican investigator arrives and holds up his hand confirming the grim tally: four men and a woman.
The grisly discovery last month is part of a spike in drownings since October. Immigrants, desperate to avoid detection at a time of increased patrols, are choosing more dangerous and remote crossings into South Texas. The Border Patrol has responded by expanding its search-and-rescue teams to monitor the area, particularly weed-choked irrigation canals where many of the bodies are being found. …

At least the drownings reduce, however slightly, the burden on the American taxpayer.
I’m surprised that Obama would let anyone in his administration increase enforcement along our southern border — I thought it would be TX Gov. Abbot that started enforcing the immigration laws, & doing so against Obama’s wishes. All’s well that ends well, I reckon.
I just can’t understand why the benevolent government in Mexico doesn’t close that border so that their citizens don’t face these unreasonable dangers. What’s wrong with them, that they tolerate these unnecessary deaths? Where is their humanity?
If the United States enforced their laws like other countries and illegal aliens knew they would be caught and deported they would not even try to cross the river.

After all, Mexico has closed its border with Guatemala. Unless it’s for travelers bound for the Estados Unidos—illegally.
