Cruz attended high school at Faith West Academy in Katy, Texas, and later graduated from Second Baptist High School in Houston as valedictorian in 1988. During high school, Cruz participated in a Houston-based group called the Free Market Education Foundation where he learned about free-market economic philosophers such as Milton Friedman, Friedrich Hayek, Frédéric Bastiat and Ludwig von Mises. The program was run by Rolland Storey and Cruz entered the program at the age of 13.

Cruz graduated cum laude from Princeton University with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Policy from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs in 1992. While at Princeton, he competed for the American Whig-Cliosophic Society's Debate Panel and won the top speaker award at both the 1992 U.S. National Debating Championship and the 1992 North American Debating Championship. In 1992, he was named U.S. National Speaker of the Year, as well as Team of the Year, with his debate partner, David Panton. Cruz was a semi-finalist at the 1995 World Universities Debating Championship, making him Princeton’s highest-ranked debater at the championship. Princeton's debate team later named their annual novice championship after Cruz.

Cruz's senior thesis on the separation of powers, titled "Clipping the Wings of Angels," draws its inspiration from a passage attributed to President James Madison: "If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary." Cruz argued that the drafters of the Constitution intended to protect the rights of their constituents, and that the last two items in the Bill of Rights offer an explicit stop against an all-powerful state. Cruz wrote: "They simply do so from different directions. The Tenth stops new powers, and the Ninth fortifies all other rights, or non-powers."

After graduating from Princeton, Cruz attended Harvard Law School, graduating magna cum laude in 1995 with a Juris Doctor degree. While at Harvard Law, he was a primary editor of the Harvard Law Review, and executive editor of the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy, and a founding editor of the Harvard Latino Law Review. Referring to Cruz's time as a student at Harvard Law, Professor Alan Dershowitz said, "Cruz was off-the-charts brilliant." At Harvard Law, Cruz was a John M. Olin Fellow in Law and Economics.

I think the media has met far more than its match here.

How did Carly do?

Good job. She was straightforward, in command of the facts, likable.

I think she would be a great VEEP candidate. She could set the record straight on Hillary and not let the Hildebeast pull the poor, victimized female card like she did in her senate race in NY.

But I like her comeback when Wallace asked her about running for VEEP. She told him she would answer that when he asked that of other candidates. LOL

almost everyone you talk to is ingrained with the logic of only the middle can win.

IIRC Romney won the independents in 2012. Rove and the other consultants were floored when he lost the election.

You know, back when I was a kid, in the mid 60’s, down in Alabama we had these good ole boys who, God love ‘em, where very bigoted against blacks—n-word this and that, some in the klan, etc. We’ll I was opposed to that back then. It just seemed so wrong from what we learned in Church. I didn’t hate those folks, I just strongly disagreed with them.

Then we had Dr. King who said, “...they will be judged on the basis of the content of their character, not the color of their skin.” And I really agreed with that.

It just makes sense that hey, I’m not better than you, and you’re not better than me, just because of our skin color. The world looked promising then. Things would be better!

Now 50+ years later...

They are better in so many ways, but still some want to piss and moan about how awful it is. It isn’t. The problems of yesterday—racial prejudice and bigotry—are gone, but the problems of today are self inflicted! No fathers, drugs, and the dependent lifestyle have ruined so many people!

Changing gears...

Now when you think about the various white supremacist groups, American Nazi’s, Stormfront etc., well, everybody considers them kooks, and awful. Right? It’s not like they have practically anyone that agrees with them...

But just saying “Enough! I didn’t do anything wrong! I’ve oppressed no one; didn’t discriminate, tried to be fair my whole life, agreed with Dr. King, and tried to live by his philosophy...” Well, that isn’t enough, and worse, if you say something like “Whites are being accused unfairly.” or I’m proud to be white just like blacks are proud to be black,” you are considered by the driveby media, democrats and liberals to be EXACTLY the same as Stormfront of the Westboro Baptist Church!

In other words, standing up and saying we’re all equal and no one should get special treatment is enough to have you branded as a racist for those thoughts.

And don’t even get me started on the loopy idea of white privilege. It is RACIST in its heart and core. No other words will do.

There was a moment there on The State of the Union, when the interviewer was pounding Cruz about his likeability and about the bills that he actually has sponsored and passed.

Not satisfied, she wrily stated: “But there’s only one law ....”

I could sense Cruz’s instant anger and ire for a few milliseconds as he contemplated another “soul crushing” response to the interviewer. Instead, he deftly sidestepped and brought focus back on Harry Reid’s Senate shutdown.

Exactly, how can anyone believe that a middle of the roader will win when the country is crying out for true conservative leadership?

Jesus, who, incidentally, the Muslims say they believe in and call him a great prophet, said,

“Jesus said unto him, I AM the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes unto the Father, but by me.”

Well ask a Muslim, “If this is true, why would God need a Mohammed 600+ years later?”

They do not have an answer.

The REAL answer is God was/is complete in Jesus and His Great Sacrifice! Satan, on the other hand, needed something big, big, big to counter such a Truth.

Hence Mohammed and Islam. Satan’s answer!

the Twitter universe has created the impression that a short answer is the full answer, and the truth..
Actually that is a tactic that is taught to candidates for dealing with interviewers:

Immediately give the one word answer, and then keep talking about what you want to say. Most good politicians have this down pat.

Agree. I call it “ run out the clock”

And thats why they are going full frontal assault on him now. They don’t want to face him, even in a “ moderated debate”
They figured they could Palinize him on their interview shows. But he’s bullet-proof. He NEVER slips up.

They SHOULD have IGNORED him, but they just couldn’t help themselves.

Sure, he was valedictorian at Harvard and Princeton, but they’re SMARTER than him. They’re LIBERALS.

Great take on their effort. Agree, he is the real deal when it comes to straight talk, and keep on the point. Also, he’s the anti everything liberal about both of those universities.

They won’t rope a dope him

Our side is to dumb to counter.

You're right.

We need to start going on the offensive!

If some one brings up "white privilege", counter immediately with "That's the dumbest idea I've ever heard of! And it's as racist to say as--ALL whites have this or that as it is to say all blacks are this or that! Have you never been to Appalachia?!"

Immediately emphasis how much better things are now because the equal rights struggle has succeeded. We need to move on.

When Trayvon Martin and Ferguson happened, we need to emphasize the THUG's behavior that got him killed. Not the color or race mind you... The BEHAVIOR.

When they call you anti-immigrant, do not accept it! Say, "You lie! I am NOT anti immigrant, I'm anti-illegally entering this country!!! People who applied to come here are waiting patiently. Are you anti them?! What do you have against people who do the right thing and support those who break the law that others follow?!"

If white police violence against black males are mentioned, always mention how many more blacks kill whites or rape white women, as opposed to vice versa. State that any such killing or raping is wrong, but it is unequal nowadays. Ask the interviewer, "Why is that?"

You'll be called a Stormfronter, but at least you aren't agreeing and cowering in the corner!
