Lawmakers approve religion as a veil for intolerance
Boston Globe ^ | March 26, 2015 | Renee Graham

Indiana Governor Mike Pence signed into law Thursday a bill he claims will protect religious liberty in his state. Overwhelmingly approved by that state’s Republican-controlled legislature, the law allows businesses and workers, citing their religious beliefs, to refuse service to anyone they find objectionable. Of course, what the so-called “religious freedom” act really does is legalize discrimination against lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, and transgender people.

An example of why the religious right can’t be effective is search for ‘Manhattan Declaration’ on FR. A lot of those threads were about many very conservative Christians who refused to sign it because of who had already signed, namely the Catholic and Orthodox Christians. That was six years ago.

This is caused by a re-definition of the word “tolerance”. Just a few decades ago it meant, “You have a right to believe anything you chose and I must tolerated that choice.” But the new definition is: “I can believe anything I chose and you have to accept my belief as equal to yours or you are not tolerating me.” This new definition of tolerance - based upon the belief that their are no absolute truths - is the bases for most PC thinking today.

The arrogance of just the headline itself is disgusting.

If the Pilgrims could have seen that arrogant headline or know what Massachusetts would become they would have sailed on down south another 1,200 miles and left Massachusetts to the Indians.

Liberals, if I go to a gay owned bakery and ask them to bake me a wedding cake with the quotation ‘Marriage Equals 1 Man and 1 Women’ they would bake it? I doubt that.

Lawmakers approve homosexuality and other sexual perversions as a mask to strip away religious rights.

Christians nitpick over doctrinal differences few could understand rather than fighting for Christian values in the popular culture.

Its sad.

I agree with you, but the ones that didn’t sign did so with the best intentions from their point of view. That’s why things like that probably won’t work for Christians who are for traditional morality. When things start getting worse as far as persecutions maybe it will change. Probably not.

In a, “FREE COUNTRY” you are allowed your personal beliefs. You are not controlled by someone else s want and desires. It is high time that the idea of freedom of thought is accepted by those who keep screeching about tolerance. They are by their actions hypocrites. By preaching that it is good for me to define your thoughts but you cannot define mine. It is Political Correctness that will ultimately destroy this country as it is doing right now. After all Political Correctness is just another way of saying I don’t want to hear what you have to say. or care whether it is right or wrong.

Liberals believe religious people are bigots.

And bigots don’t deserve legal protection or social approval.

That’s really why they’re up in arms over the new Indiana law.

Question: If an Islamic Muslim-based business is forced to deal with any LGBT client, how long is the situation going to be contained?

Note to the LGBT community - the Muslims are here, and DEFINITELY do not tolerate the queer. Take your objections up with them.

Which interest group would be served then?

Discrimination is done by Atheists and our own Government against Christians.
The queers wanted to just be left alone, yet here we are putting up with
their Marxist discrimination against the 1st Amendment.

The real issues against Christians are being put up with By Christians.

Intolerance has gotten a bum reputation.

A society can not exist without INTOLERANCE.

For the past 60 years there has been an effort to remove intolerance from out society, and we are living with the results today.

Societies only have a few ways to enforce the rules required for people to live together. On top is the rule of law, police, courts and punishment. On the bottom is the family (and friends) that correct the behavior of the members of the group.

A society could not exist if people were not aware of what is and is not acceptable behavior. Being intolerant towards those (and yes that does mean being judgemental) towards those that are behaving badly.

An example is when I was growing up, having a child out of wedlock was almost unheard of for the simple reason that society was intolerant of those that did. Unfortunately the girl made a heavy price (and as an individual I have great sympathy toward those young woman) but society as a whole was being protected.

Our compassion toward those young girls and our society becoming less judgmental towards them condemned many girls into the life of poverty.

The simple truth is, girls back then knew it was wrong, and that gave them a power to say NO when pressured. (That and the fact that the boy knew that the girls father or older brother would back up that no with an ass kicking, also approved by society).

I can list a number of things that out of misplaced compassion has removed sigma from bad behavior. The individuals no longer be judged by society are in many cases worse off then if they felt the sting of societies intolerance.

The real intolerant people in our nation today are those that are PC police.

Why should Christians be forced to tolerate child-molesters and murderers?
