Cruz the bruiser: The junior senator from Texas is dangerous
The Economist ^ | March 28, 2015 | The Editors

Posted on 03/27/2015 6:15:41 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

WITH 596 days to go before America’s next presidential election, the first serious candidate has announced that he will run (see article). Ted Cruz is an intelligent man with an inspiring life story. His father fled from Cuba with a few dollars sewn into his underwear and settled in the United States. The young Ted made a name for himself in Texas while still a teenager, giving lectures to Rotary clubs about the constitution. By his early 30s he was arguing cases before the Supreme Court—and winning. At 41, he was elected to the Senate, overcoming long odds in a Republican primary to beat a tycoon backed by party bigwigs. Now, at 44, he thinks he is ready to be president. You cannot accuse Mr Cruz of lacking self-confidence.

Republicans who do not like Mr Cruz—and that includes many of his colleagues in the Senate—liken him to Barack Obama before he became president. This is meant both as an insult and a backhanded compliment. They mean that Mr Cruz’s career so far has consisted entirely of talking and that, with no executive experience, he is hopelessly unprepared for the White House. But they also acknowledge that he is a brilliant speaker and a candidate who should not be underestimated. They are right on all points.

Mr Cruz is an outstanding campaigner. He is sharp and often witty on the stump. He jokes to audiences nervous of NSA snooping that they should leave their mobile phones on, because “I want to make sure that President Obama hears everything I have to say this morning.” He is passionate, arguing that “God isn’t done with America yet.” And he is adept at channelling the rage of those who most dislike the man in the Oval Office. But he would make a terrible president...

The same old tired meme that a conservative cannot win. I’m sick of hearing it. How did McCain and Romney do with all the middle of the roading?

In 2016 the voters need a black and white choice. Either you want to live in a Commie Dictatorship or you don’t.

My favorite movie.

Ted Cruz scares the crap out of them because he could ignite the same kind of groundswell that Reagan did.
And they know it. That’s why they are trying desperately to diminish him and make people think he’s unelectable.

I remember how “dangerous” Ronald Reagan was supposed to be, but the US did very little in terms of overt military action during his presidency

They should ask Cruz about specifics, he might just surprise them. All Obama offered in 2008 was transformation, change and hope. He’s still filling in the blanks.

My former roommate subscribes to The Economist. In leafing through it, I found it to be complete fluff and lies written for/by pumpkin spice latte drinking douchebag hipsters that think they have a inkling about how the real world works. I was surprised it didn’t have Doonesbury next to the letters to the editor.

You know it burns the lefties to no end that the first serious Hispanic candidate for president is a Republican and a conservative at that. It shows how race is not a factor to our side when we can tout his accomplishments and give substantive reasons to why we want to support him without a sliver of mention of the man’s ethnicity. If Cruz were a Democrat we would hear no end from the media of his attempt to become the first Hispanic to win the presidency. Alas, Ted is a conservative so to the media the hell with this historical event, and let’s go out and destroy him.

BINGO!!! Heaven forbid you be non-white and not support the Democrat mindset. That thought process blows me away all the time. I’m first gen American and pretty much my entire family subscribe to conservatism. My lib friends can’t figure out why.

Senator Cruz:

Ted Cruz sits on the following committees: Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation.
Chairman, Subcommittee on Space, Science, and Competitiveness. ...
Senate Committee on the Judiciary. ...
Joint Economic Committee.
Senate Committee on Armed Services. ...
Senate Committee on Rules and Administration.

Unlike the nit Obama who voted present while in the Senate, Senator Cruz (takes an active role).
