THE CHAMBER MUSIC OF LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN

”Adelaide”, Op. 46

Although it possesses an opus number that would correlate with a middle period piece, this song actually dates from 1796. Frederick von Matthison’s poem has been set by a goodly number of composers, to include the 17 year old Franz Schubert, but it is Beethoven’s through-composed setting that has stood the test of time and become a favorite for tenors. Near the end, note how Beethoven plays with the phrase “auf jedem Purpurblättchen” (“on each little purple page”) like a young god creating a new world. This is one where you just need to close your eyes and roll with it.

Beethoven: “Adelaide”, Op. 46

“One suggestion...if I may...the “year” would be a great addition.”

You must be a democrat. You are complaining about free stuff! ;-)

There is a big difference between a suggestion and a complaint.
Don’t disrespect The Drumbo.

Thanks very much Maestro - one of my all-time faves! Interestingly, after it played on YouTube, the next song up was the same, sung by Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau.

A twofer! Or as the deejays used to say "sounded so nice, I'm gonna play it twice."

"I am an American fighting man. I serve in the forces which guard my country and our way of life.
I am prepared to give my life in their defense."

It was along about 1988 or so, and the factory I was working in was closing.
A couple of us guys called the local radio station with a request.
They played ‘Take This Job And Shove It’ dedicated to us,
and we piped it through the plant’s PA system.

“Don’t disrespect The Drumbo.”

You need to get a sense of humor. I would suggest that you read ‘Bo’s tagline.

Oh, and by the way,
do me a big Texas favor, and never call me a democrat.
Or I might be tempted to call you something like
a big pussy queer MF son of a whore
and then close that off with a smiley face so it will be OK.
:-)
