JACKSON, N.J. (AP) - A theme park plans to cut down more than 18,000 trees for the construction of what it says will be the largest solar farm in New Jersey.

Park President John Fitzgerald said in a statement that solar power will significantly reduce the park's reliance on fossil fuels.

Not satire - guess they haven't heard that trees consume carbon dioxide and release oxygen.

The local schools did the same thing. Every tree in every parking lot cut down for carports with gizmos on top.

Made my blood boil.

I wonder if they were they required to file an Environmental Impact Report?

People made fun of Ronald Reagan when he said it. Turns out, he was on the right track.

You don't have to be one of those to detest hypocrisy.

Assuming uniformity of code, any developer would have to replace them inch-for-diameter-inch. Unless, of course, there's an alternative-energy waiver.

I like trees. I like it when they are harvested because then they are replanted which is good for the forest.

I don't like it when they are cut for silly reasons because I like the shade and coolness they bring.

These are being cut for a reason that is IMHO silly and will be counter productive. But they own the trees so it is their right to do as they will.

It is also my right to think and say that they are dumber then a box of rocks to do so.

(No insult to rocks intended)

You call it hypocrisy, but most would call it a trade-off.

Conservative conservation and recognition of the benefits of trees is not “tree-hugging”.

Without government subsidies the “solar farm” would NEVER pay for itself;the cost of solar cell panels including labor and support structures and maintenance, repairs needed after storm damage, and the FACT that solar cells deliver power only when well sunlit.THAT last happens just how many hours per year in New Jersey?

Are you for cutting down 18,000 trees to support a leftist boondoggle?

It should be their right to cut the trees but we shouldn’t have to subsidize it.

Humans have a relationship with trees ...they give off oxygen and take up Co2 we give off Co2 and take in Oxygen. kind of a dumb thing to do
