Ted Cruz’s claim that there has been ‘zero’ global warming in 17 years
Washington Post ^ | March 26, 2015 | Michelle Ye Hee Lee

“Many of the alarmists on global warming, they’ve got a problem because the science doesn’t back them up. In particular, satellite data demonstrate for the last 17 years, there’s been zero warming.” –Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex,), “Late Night with Seth Meyers” interview, March 17, 2015

“The last 15 years, there has been no recorded warming. Contrary to all the theories that – that they are expounding, there should have been warming over the last 15 years. It hasn’t happened.” –Cruz, CNN interview released Feb. 20, 2014

Cruz has been taking some heat — pun intended — lately over his global warming comments. While the recent focus has been on his interview on “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” Cruz made similar comments in the past, as shown in the CNN interview in February 2014.

Yeah, they go back 22 years to get the numbers that fit the narrative.

The 15 (or 17?) year “pause” in global warming is well documented. Cato had a report not too long ago that documented something like 40 different theories by (reputable?) climateologists as to why it was happening.

On top of that, about 10 years ago one of the big climatologists was presented with the data showing the then 5 year “pause”. He responded that it was statistically insiginificant/irrelevant and would only matter if it lasted 15 years or so.

If someone knows where a link to those are, I’d appreciate having them posted!

Any ‘fact check’ that quotes Michael Mann is a sham (like he is).

Someone should tell the Gore-Bull Warmists that in micro-climate heating of cities filled with asphalt and cement absorbing large amounts of heat along with the direct heating of large building and homes causes large columns of rising hot air. This rising warmer air from large metro areas disrupts the jet-streams and has far far more of an effect on local and national weather than a few tenths of degrees here and there...

And then tell them that there is ONLY ONE SOLUTION to fix this, TEAR DOWN THEIR PRECIOUS CITIES!!!!

But I don’t think Ted Cruz should bring this up, because that would mean there would be so many exploded liberal heads that the entire country would smell like rotting meat for a couple decades...

This is one the many areas that should be thoroughly and publically examined.

There are several qualified people who have publically stated that GW is BS. Without exception these people were fired and never heard from again. Mr. Cruz should seek them out and give them a chance to be heard.

Global Warming, aka Climate Change, is follow the grant money and who gives the grants. Who gives the grants tells you what outcome they expect.

I’m with Cruz on the global warming issue. I am, however, slightly concerned about his vote to reauthorize the Patriot Act. I’m on the Cruz bandwagon, but without a good explanation to reauthorize that monstrosity, I’m on shaky ground. A true, dyed in the wool Conservative would do everything possible to shut down the Patriot Act.

From 1998 to 2012, the last year in that data set, the red satellite data found a decrease in temperatures, at -0.043 degrees centigrade per decade. The rest found modest growth, ranging from 0.061 degrees to 0.072 degrees centigrade per decade.

The margin of error for the four cited data sets is greater than the puny temperature change that they found.

This is BS!

The "fact checkers" are ignorant of basic statistics.

Cruz was right.

The article claims that Cruz was wrong....but then proceeds to show he was right, but off by a fraction of a decimal of a degree, which is in the margin of error!

Exactly.

Yes, this is called the Urban Heat Island(UHI) effect and it is as you point out unrelated to CO2.

The temperature data set people claim that they calculate in some factor to supposedly cancel out UHI. Anybody what to bet that they don't do this correctly and that the results remain skewed on the high side.

Also when you have temperature stations that used to be on the outskirts of town that are now developed...

Gee this part of the city was developed 10 years ago and the air temps went up 10 years ago....

Golly, it must be CO2...

Here's the problem: they need to take into account ONLY weather stations that are not located anywhere near an urban area, where the heat island effect skews all the measurements.

The very fact that wapo has to go through this long torturous explanation to make its case proves that the sciences is BY NO MEANS SETTLED!

Shame on Cruz for telling the Truth!

Doesn't he know that for the AGW Scam promoters the “science” is non-falsifiable?!?!

No fact is above what the politicians and grant dependent “scientists” tell us. Not to mention the exceedingly wise media that know ALL.

Remember,

if it's warm it's global warming.

If it's cold, it's global warming.

If nothing happens for 15 years, global warming is just on vacation until the scammers can take the opportunity to say “See, See it's finally hot again!”

The AGW scammers have a roulette wheel, if it lands on black, the house wins.
If it lands on red the house wins.

If it doesn't land on anything, the house wins until it lands on black or red.

WOT A GRIFT!

I worry about that too, but that is one of the less than 4 things about Cruz that worry me and that list isn’t even fully filled out.

Compared to the other “contenders” Cruz is far far ahead of them.

Agreed, which is why I am behind him. Truth is, I don't want to vote R at all. I'm done with the GOP, until they can grow some balls and do what's needed. I did re-register R so I can vote for Cruz in the primaries. He's got my vote. I won't, however, vote for another R, either National or State. I'm tired of getting screwed.
