Former Secretary of State James A. Baker III, a foreign policy adviser to former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday evening at the Washington gala dinner for J Street, a Soros-funded left-wing group that is devoted to disrupting the close U.S.-Israel alliance. Baker said that Netanyahu had been too forceful in his opposition to a nuclear deal with Iran, and that he had shown insufficient commitment to peace with the Palestinians.
“If the only agreement is one under which Iran agrees to cease all enrichment, then there will likely be no agreement,” Baker said. Although UN Security Council resolutions ban any nuclear enrichment by Iran, Baker said Netanyahu’s position was too strict. On the Palestinian issue, Baker said: “In the aftermath of Netanyahu’s recent election victory, the chance of a two-state solution appears even slimmer of course, given his reversal on the issue.” Palestinians have resisted peace talks for years, despite Netanyahu’s agreement to impose construction freezes in West Bank settlements.
Baker, who has been close to the Bush family for generations, is known for his past opposition to Israel and is viewed by many Jewish voters with suspicion. Nonetheless, Jeb Bush approached Baker recently to join his foreign policy team. The former Florida governor and purported Republican frontrunner for the presidential nomination has not commented on Baker’s appearance at J Street, but did tweet on Friday that “Obama’s treatment of Israel…is misguided/disappointing.”
Baker drew loud applause from the J Street audience when he recalled how the first Bush administration opposed loan guarantees to Israel over the issue of settlements, and how Israelis elected a new, left-wing government in the aftermath. He touted “land-for-peace” as the best solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, ...

Former U.S. Secretary of State James Baker harshly criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the J Street conference in Washington on Monday, echoing White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough’s comments earlier in the day.
Baker acknowledged his disappointment with “the lack of progress regarding a lasting peace,” saying that the chances for a two-state solution diminished since Netanyahu’s reelection last week.
Baker further slammed Netanyahu’s “diplomatic missteps and political gamesmanship,” saying that the prime minister’s “actions have not matched his rhetoric,” according to Politico.
Earlier in the day, White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough offered a similar rebuke of Netanyahu – specifically the prime minister’s claims that no Palestinian state would be established on his watch.
“We cannot simply pretend that those comments were never made,” McDonough told the conference.
Baker continued by claiming that hardliners on both sides are the biggest impediment to peace.

The entire rest of the Republican field should be running against just such a hypothetical Bush/Clinton ticket, because the trend in that territory once known as “the United States of America”, is rather more to favor the stance of Netanyahu and his view of the world.
It would be nice if the US could once again become the ally of Israel.

I would like to think that Baker’s antisemitism does not reflect Jeb Bush’s political views. Unfortunately, I’m not that optimistic. Jeb seems happy to follow in Obama’s path, which is why Jeb will not have my vote, not even if it’s a Bush/Clinton election again.
I can’t wait for Jebbie to crash and burn so we don’t have to read or talk about him anymore.

Good grief. Is Jeb Bush the candidate of the New World Order and does the New World Order want to destroy Israel? The way information is coming out about Jeb Bush, I see very little difference between him and Obama or Hillary. He sounds like a flaming leftist who has managed to tone down the rhetoric and appear non-threatening.
I’ve been saying that Bush and Hillary share essentially the same political views right down the line.
Now it starts to look like he and Obama are on the same page. The idea that Repubs would nominate an anti-Israel candidate is beyond bizarre.
