Rand Paul: Cruz's Audience Was Required To Attend; I'm Not Interested In Just Throwing Out Red Meat
Real Clear Politics ^ | 03/23/2015 | Ian Schwartz

MEGYN KELLY, KELLY FILE: Senator, good to see you tonight. A lot of Rand Paul supporters showed up today at the Ted Cruz announcement. Was that orchestrated?

SEN. RAND PAUL: Somebody did. I'm not sure know who did orchestrate it. I kind of remember those days because I went to Baylor University and we were all required to go to convocation. So all these kids are required and some of those who are required wanted to make sure that just by having to be there they weren't expressing their support. But we were glad to see them there and organized and, you know, excited about the possibility of me running

KELLY: What did you make of Ted Cruz's remarks today?

PAUL: Well, you know, the interesting thing is I didn't find much I disagreed with. All I heard was the clip that you played. I've been traveling and busy today. But the thing is, you know, we kind of come from the same wing of the party and if you look at our voting records you'll find we're very, very similar.

I guess what makes us different is probably our approach as to how we would make the party bigger. And I'm a big believer that you should stand on principle and be true to your principles, but I also think that we should take those principles and try to bring in new people with them. So I've spent the last couple years trying to go places Republicans haven't gone. And maybe not just throwing out red meat but actually throwing out something intellectually enticing to people who haven't been listening to our message before.

Man, is Rand Paul jealous or what? He's going to run just to be a spiteful...little...something.

How petty can you get? So what, the school requires you to attend all assemblies and he makes it sound like they were forced.

Red meat? Like his dad always threw to those Paulbots?

Pray America is waking

“So I’ve spent the last couple years trying to go places Republicans haven’t gone.”

Oh they’ve gone and pandered in those places before, only to end up looking like chumps.

Have fun, you roach. God only knows how you were even seen as a contender.

He’s doddering between crying “wha wha...” and trying to be VP.

Paul is a bad idea to be on Cruz’ , or anyone’s, ticket as VP.

Rand Paul is a great, unelectable man. I know that he knows this and will figure out how to make a positive contribution to Cruz' campaign.

Join up, or STFU!

Question for Cruz, Rand, and their fervent supporters:
When can I see some action to remove the crap-weasels McConnell and Boehner?

Never liked Paul much anyway.

I'm a big believer that you should stand on principle and be true to your principles [cheap casual 'throw in' nod to "principle"], but [here's his main point] I also think that we should take those principles and try to bring in new people with them. The old hippie was asked 'what are you protesting against? The hippie replied 'What do you got'.

These people are just the same as those on the left who get furious whenever the don't get their way.

I don't think they are our allies....

Rand, most of the people watching that speech were either watching it on TV or the internet.

The more I hear from Rand Paul the more I dislike the man.

Walker took on the unions and won.

Cruz took on the RINO Establishment and won.

Rand Paul's followers wear red sweatshirts.

Nuff said.

I thought Megyn Kelly using Rand Paul as a commentator on Ted Cruz’s rollout was total pandering. The only way to balance such unfairness was to have Paul’s campaign manager be there for rebuttal. Which she didn’t. Nor did ANYONE of Fox last night. It was totally unfair and totally unbalanced. Hannity is the lone exception who had a Ted Cruz interview.

Lousy job by Kelly last night.

If Ted Cruz and Rand Paul do this right dissatisfied voters and young voters will focus on choosing either Ted Cruz and Rand Paul. A lot of them will be new voters to the Republican Party. They're the two guys who are willing to take on the establishment and tell it like it is.

That they don't agree on everything makes it real interesting.
