So, the way they get around that requirement is to craft a job description that nobody can meet*, announce that there are no qualified Americans available, and then hire a foreigner. The foreigner doesn’t meet the job description either, but nobody goes back and verifies or enforces that he does.
*I have personally seen job postings in the IT world demanding, e.g., 5 years experience with a technology that had only been out in the market for 3 years. This is done to justify hiring a foreigner “because there are no qualified Americans”.
And many big corporations have H-1B specialists in HR—one displaced worker told of a department devoted to H-1B visa workers.
As a FYI Ted Cruz is in favor of increasing by a factor of five the number of HB1 visas a year. I will not be supporting Ted Cruz when he is threatneing my job and wages.
So is there ANYONE who is running who is for the AMERICAN WORKERS?
I am serious—not a rhetorical question :(
it is disappointing. Very.
Nope, we didn’t lower the salary but we are a small company and couldn’t afford more. Now we are just getting by with our one programmer (American), although developing at a snail’s pace.
I am hoping that perhaps the information in the articles is incorrect or that Cruz will clarify his position on H-1B visas. The Computerworld article came out this week—interesting timing, though they seemed to be in favor & I don’t consider it to be a political publication.
So who gets the job, Laz? Americans or Indians? Or Chinese?
