SKY News: Germanwings aircraft began its descent ten minutes before it crashed. And appears to be way off its route.

AFP: Plane was at 5,000 feet - Alain Vidalies, minister of state for transport, said: “A distress call was registered at 10:47. The distress signal showed the plane was at 5,000 feet in an abnormal situation.”

The crash happened shortly after the distress signal, he said.

They were talking about this possibility on the news, but a pilot they were interviewing said the descent appears to have been too slow, compared to Air France Flight 447, for that to be the case.

Sky news reports: Flight-tracking data indicated the aircraft plummeted from 40,000ft to 6,200ft in the space of 10 minutes before it crashed.

A bit premature to come to that conclusion, but it wouldn't surprise me.

SKY News: Anthony Davis, aviation journalist, told Sky News: “The log suggests (the plane) went straight down at a significant rate, up to 5,000 feet per minute at one point, which suggests it happened in a matter of seconds.

“It is unlikely the passengers on board would have known anything about this.

”As far as I am aware that the pilots did not send a typical distress call, a squawk of 770.

“They simply said emergency, emergency.”

This is why we need to look at the flight data recorder and cockpit recorder data. AND especially look at the remains of the plane for chemical residue from an explosive device.
