SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) – There was some concern in Southfield Sunday morning after an ISIS flag was seen hanging from the side of a truck near the United States Army Reserve Center.

Officials there tell us the flag was being used a part of an anti-terrorism training exercise, and the truck had briefly left the property. Such a vehicle wouldn’t normally leave the base, and officials understand why there would be confusion and apologized. They say using foreign flags and symbols make their exercises authentic.

The need for authenticity could have gotten the truck and a good part of the neighborhood it was seen in,.... BLOWN UP in some places.

It always surprises me when that kind of practice operation is done, followed by panicked residents, followed by quick apologies and explanations. Then I rethink it all. Maybe they want to throw a bit of a mystifying scare into people
for an hour or two, then walk it back. What this accomplishes is to give possible trouble-makers something to think about. So, I’m leaning into the opinion that this not telling citizens about war games is not an oversight at all.

Southfield isn't Detroit (outside of around Northland Mall). Detroit and Southfield aren't in the same county. Metro Detroit (Which has varying definitions but I define as Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb Counties) isn't the same as Detroit and have many varying areas. Detroit is only part of Metro Detroit.

Dearborn's about 15-20 miles from Southfield. Southfield does not have a very large Middle Eastern population either, although there are some there, mostly Chaldean and Assyrian Christians.

You are correct as is all of Macomb County and where I live which is 18 miles north of the Detroit city limits but I am not in Detroit.........

Had you said Metro-Detroit I would not have made any comment but since you said Detroit, I found it necessary to correct you.

I work in Southfield, but I can throw a stone south into Redford, and another east into Detroit. Ugh. Home base is Waterford, which is good(but Pontiac lurks just a few miles east). At least if SHTF, I know from whence the majority of zombies come!

Dearborn has its issues, but if I only read FR, I'd expect to get beheaded there. That's not reality. Dearborn is actually still majority Christian, and I'm more apt to get attacked in Detroit than Dearborn.

Darren, you forgot to mention that virtually every single party store, gas station and neighborhood market in the city of Detroit are owned by those evil Christian Dearbornistans........If not Dearborn then the other neighboring communities such as Sterling Heights, my hood and the others........

Chaldeans are Catholic Assyrians who are from Northern Iraq. They are often (incorrectly) referred to as Christian Arabs from Iraq.

A lot of them are now in Michigan. Most Middle Easterners in SE Michigan are Lebanese (both Muslim and Christian) and Iraqi (Largely Chaldean, some Muslims).

Its unfortunate but FReepers can't get over the false consensus that there are more muslims in Dearborn/Detroit than anywhere else.

There are a concentration of them in Dearborn but they are vastly outnumbered by middle eastern Christians who have a much longer history in the Detroit area.

Overall I believe Michigan has fallen to about 8th in the number of muslims per state.

I recently ran into a guy I went to school with who became an FBI agent. He told me that the Detroit area muslims are the most closely watched in the country. The downside is that other muslim populations in the USA aren't getting the attention they should. (He personally has concerns for Houston and other big petroleum terminals.)
