Jeb Bush's Matt Drudge problem and why he ticks off so many conservatives
Tampa Bay Times ^ | Mar. 20, 2015 | Adam C. Smith

Jeb Bush has a serious Matt Drudge problem, and that points to a more fundamental electoral problem.

Among the most prominent DrudgeReport.com headlines Thursday evening: POLL: 54% WANT FRESH FACES IN '16....NH voters pan Bush...Jeb Still Refuses to Rule Out Tax Hikes...

The prior Friday, during his New Hampshire debut as a likely 2016 presidential candidate, much of the mainstream media was gushing over Bush's substance, his accessibility and his refusal to pander to the right on issues like immigration reform. But Drudge offered these headlines: RUBIO ON RISE...JEB STRUGGLES FROM WITHIN...Says his view on immigration is 'grown-up plan'...WALKER: 'WE NEED NAME FROM FUTURE, NOT PAST'...

Drudge, a Miami resident and registered independent voter, does not pick the Republican nominee, of course, although he was consistently kind to Mitt Romney in 2012. However, his immensely popular website helps shape the conversation among Republican activists and reporters covering the race.

Jeb Bush’s ego is so big that he thinks that telling the truth will win
because people are so stupid. I'm glad he thinks that way, it eliminates
all the work involved in fact checking.

Jeb started his campaign by overtly telling conservatives they weren’t needed nor was he interested in them.

He can go pound sand.

Yes, have noticed that too. The big dispute seems to be between FReepers who will never vote for Bush, under any circumstances, and those who will hold their noses in the general if he does get the nomination.

There are definitely some appealing things about Bush. He does have good exec experience, including in emergency management. He does support some Conservative policies. He’d stand a much better chance of appointing Conservatives to the Courts than a Dem. And he has great fundraising and campaign organizing capability (through his family network).

Downsides are his many not-so-Conservative policies and the stigma of his family name (both from overexposure of it in national politics and a couple decades worth of sometimes undeserved bashing that isn’t forcefully responded to).

I’m guessing that people who might be drawn to him for his positives are going instead to Walker, who has those positives (fundrasing and building campaign orgs TBD) as well but also lacks many of the negatives.

He sure did, it was bafflingly hostile and vicious, to make such a strong attack against the base.

They will be here, just probably not until next year this time after the RNC has engineered his nomination.
Then the fun begins as we are berated, castigated, cajoled, and told we’re electing Hillary if we don’t vote for Jebster.
IMHO, we’re electing Hillary if we DO vote for Jebster, there’s that little difference between them.

Jeb Bush’s biggest problem is his voter problem as in he ain’t gettin’ none.

No one wants this frickin’ jackass.

I feel he made a very serious, fatal mistake to our freedom by creating the DHS and TSA.

You don't create behemoth agencies by 'mistake.'

It was calculatingly deliberate.

A president had very little to do with managing an emergency. That’s just a hard cold fact. And nothing about Bush makes him with my vote. It’s better that the gop lose hard, again and again until they reform into an American party in line with tea,,, or until they vanish.

Drudge is a bitch

It’s a shame

He might dump on Cruz just the same

Wish he’d be straight

Neither of the Bushes were my choice, they were all default votes.

The one thing I’ll give them and that I’m comfortable with is that I believe them to be God fearing and more honest than any Dem on the scene or far horizon.

And I hate to see this country turn into a bizarre oligarchy where the sons and daughters of past leaders ride on coattails alone...that’s insanity.

Free Republic has only truly nominated once accurately

2004

Bear that in mind

We are just us

Kinda outlier though we detest admitting that

If we get our guy it’s just timing and luck

The Lamestream Media wants Jeb just like they wanted Romney. They want a milktoast Republican candidate, in this case, for Hillary to beat. What they don't want is a conservative candidate to take our country back to it's roots (they want Progressivism - Liberalism - Socialism).

The Lamestream insists that they be the moderators to any Republican debates and will insist that All the candidates be there so they can ridicule them with liberal questions. The Republicans need to grow a spine, not allow any candidate with less than 5% into the debates and use Republican moderators only.

Sure, FR may be an outlier, but FReepers are exactly the kind of people needed to canvass neighborhoods, staff phone banks and otherwise engage in the kind of retail politics that push candidates over the 50%+1 threshold and into office.

You can’t buy that kind of enthuthiasm. Paul has it, but won’t get to the point where it will be decisive. Walker and Cruz both look like they have it, and can reach that tipping point.

Bush doesn’t have it. Period. And it’s really going to show.

As much as I love Matt, I think I may LOATHE Jeb more.

Good for Matt..!

He was at The March for Justice in DC many years ago and is responsible for VERY MANY freepers finding FR.

He was a loner in high school, and a humble store clerk.

MATT DRUDGE IS AN ARMY OF ONE AND A TOTAL GENIUS.

He has turned the US media on it’s rotten, vicious head.

jeb is NOT a Conservative, he’s a rino that says he’s conservative because the word conservative is now an obligatory campaign slogan to most that use it. Senator Ted Cruz is qualified to use the term. being for common core, amnesty and open borders is not conservative.

Walker also has big positives that Bush lacks: 1) He’s proven himself as able and willing to conduct political trench warfare against the most pure evil of the evil DemonCraps and defeated them thrice; 2) He’s won and won repeatedly in a strongly blue northern state, something none of the other pubbies candidates has done; and 3) He’s stayed true to conservative principles while making strategic compromises to advance his conservative agenda. IOW he’s the strongest conservative candidate we’ve had since Renaldus Magnus.
