You Blew It! Force People to Vote

“Other countries have mandatory voting. Why not us?” — President Barack Obama

On Wednesday, March 18, Barack Obama was speaking at a town-hall event in Cleveland, Ohio, when he openly endorsed mandatory voting laws.

“It would be transformative if everybody voted,” President Obama said. “That would counteract [campaign] money more than anything. If everybody voted, then it would completely change the political map in this country.”

President Obama continued, “Other countries have mandatory voting,” referencing nations such as Australia, which passed compulsory voting laws in 1924. Down Under, citizens will be fined and can even be jailed in certain situations if they do not cast ballots.

While Mr. Obama refrained from committing to pursuing legislation regarding the topic on a federal level, he did say that he believed “that [mandatory voting laws] may end up being a better strategy in the short term” to curb the massive impact money has on the election process.

My view? Sadly, more and more everything is either prohibited or mandated in this country.

To force people to vote goes directly against America’s founding principle of freedom. Our American Way is to “persuade” people, not coerce them, into doing the “right” thing. Read my pamphlet, “Persuasion vs. Force.”

Frankly, I think this is Obama’s and the Democrats’ way of getting more votes, since Democrats tend to vote less.

Most importantly, the level of voting in this country is a good indicator of the seriousness of our problems. A low turnout is a sign that things are going well. A high turnout suggests that our country, state or county/city is facing a serious crisis.

The fact that less than 65% of the registered voters vote is a good sign that things are going well in this country.

Mandatory voting coupled with sloppy registration is a recipe for permanent one-party control.

A low turn out is a sign of a candidate selection that can’t energize the voters. It doesn’t mean things are going well, it means the people don’t see a reason to bother.

I think he is just trying to get his base out. The if-Obama-says-it-then-it-must-be-a-good-thing response. He’s really telling them, “If you want to beat them, y’all have to vote.”

Mandatory voting is an anti-freedom idea that only someone like him would even allow himself to suggest.

"I'm from the government and I'm here to help [you vote] ."

Yeah, nothing can go wrong with that.

We already have too many uninformed, uninvolved, uncaring idiots voting for wrong reasons.

Mmm, i don’t know, I just refer to it as Them.

It doesn’t have too much to do with incumbency, just look at Jeff Flake, Kelly Ayotte, Marco Rubio... all fresh blood, all just as poisonous as the old blood.

Frankly I am for dismantling the entire thing at this point.

Why do we need to force people to vote, when our leaders claim to represent the non-voters?

A fourth of the country thinks they know what is really going on and have selected the better candidate.

A second fourth think they know what’s going on and have selected the poorer candidate.

A third fourth think they know what’s going on and reject both of them.

The final fourth realize that they don’t know what’s going on and they couldn’t care less.

Now he wants mandatory voting, in November he was claiming to act on behalf of the two-thirds of voters who did not vote.

Your vote can be for the king and for no one else.

His base never left him (as evidenced by the 2012 election); his opposition is dying off and being replaced by apathetic non-voters.

This all began with the 2004 election; GW Bush won that election with 4 Million more votes than in 2000.

Wow! How could that happen? It seems the base came out to vote, not wanting another FL recount nightmare.

However, I have noted that Obama has had one serious obsession - having MORE THAN 4 MILLION MORE VOTES THAN THE REPUBS. Hmmmmm? That seems to me to be his reason for Amnesty. And, his comment that “... requiring EVERYBODY to vote would completely change the political map”.

While I do agree with that statement, without the Amnesty group being allowed to vote, the DemocRATS are only 37-39% of the vote. That means, HE HAS TO HAVE AMNESTY in order to win elections - unless and of course, unless the BASE of the GOP decides to stay home again.

Forcing people to vote is tyranny - there’s no other way to describe it; anyone who thinks this is a great thing is either blind or just plain stupid.
