US evacuates staff as Yemen on edge of civil war

Aden (AFP) - The United States said it had evacuated all its staff from Yemen, whose embattled president has appealed for "urgent intervention" by the UN Security Council as attacks by Iran-backed rebels bring his country nearer to civil war.

Due to the deteriorating security situation in Yemen, the US government has temporarily relocated its remaining personnel out of Yemen," State Department spokesman Jeff Rathke said in a statement.

The evacuation comes after several suicide bombings claimed by the Islamic State group killed 142 people in Sanaa on Friday, with the jihadists seeking to exploit the chaos gripping the country.

The impoverished nation is torn between a north controlled by Iran-backed Shiite Huthi rebels and a south dominated by allies of President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi, who fled house arrest in Sanaa to Aden in February.

The Huthi militia and its allies on Sunday seized the airport in the battleground central town of Taez from forces loyal to Hadi, security sources said.

...The UN Security Council is to hold an emergency meeting Sunday following Hadi's appeal.

In his letter to the Council, Hadi denounced "the criminal acts of the Huthi militias and their allies," saying they "not only threaten peace in Yemen but the regional and international peace and security."

"I urge for your urgent intervention in all available means to stop this aggression that is aimed at undermining the legitimate authority, the fragmentation of Yemen and its peace and stability," Hadi wrote.

...with rising violence between the Huthi and Sunni tribes and Al-Qaeda.

...Washington late Friday pulled out troops from the Al-Anad airbase in southern Yemen amid fighting involving Al-Qaeda militants nearby which left at least 29 dead.

The US would "continue to actively monitor terrorist threats emanating from Yemen and have capabilities postured in the area to address them,"

I watched a great British series on WW II yesterday that absolutely trashed Neville Chamberlain. Various old MP’s were interviewed in the late 50’s describing the Chamberlain misguided belief that he could negotiate away the war everybody saw already in progress.

People like to compare this or that Obama act to Hitler. The real, actual, true Obama misguided example is Neville Chamberlain.

Obama is a dyed in the wool, marinated to the bone, left wing antiwar pacifist.

He will never go to war even when the Islamowackos drag his girls from school and rape and murder them.

Iran-backed Shiite Huthi rebels??? How can that be? Our dear leader is getting ready to sign an agreement with the peace loving and friendly Iranians!

Actually, I don’t see him as Neville Chamberlain at all.

It is only our western eyes that see him that way, I see him as the “prophesied chaos maker” that is trying to pave the way for the Mahdi.

His early Islamic upbringing has skewed his view of things (most likely per Dreams of my Father) or he truly was the left’s Manchurian candidate and we’re fast approaching the height of real Presidential Treason.

One of the successes Obama was crowing about before the congressional elections last year. I guess it’s more successful than Benghazi, but that could change any day now. What a disaster this loser is for our nation!

If we would just get jobs for these people, all would be well again.

The problem is the decline in the market for myrrh. The unemployed myrrh pickers are the problem

Ah, good point. The Iranians are our dear friends. They only mean well for America, aka The Great Satan. The Great Satan is just a term of endearment, bless ‘em.

Valerie Jarret, the Iranian traitor, just achieved another success. Yes, that is why the admin calls Yemen a success story.

We can’t back the Yemen government, because they are fighting AGAINST the Iranian backed militia.

The dance card is too full and the region isn’t going to be a smoldering hot bed of coals too much longer.

As a perfect example of what a gaslighter Obama is, it was not but a few weeks ago he held Yemen up as an example of his diplomatic successes.

That’s exactly right, their a bunch of geniuses at the State Dept. The amusing thing is to watch the MSM spin these debacles as if they happen of their own accord, in no way related to ObaValJars policies.

You’re right. He isn’t Chamberlain like. He knows what he is doing and he is doing it to help his bros in the middle east. Chamberlain was naive and trusting. Bambi is neither.
