Weedkiller alert over cancer link (GMO)
Telegraph UK ^ | March 21, 2015 | Camilla Turner

Posted on 03/21/2015 9:23:30 AM PDT by opentalk

The World Health Organisation’s cancer agency has declared that one of the UK’s most widely used weedkillers is “probably carcinogenic to humans”.

Amateur gardeners and professional farmers have been urged to “think very carefully” about using the popular herbicide Roundup, which contains glyphosate.

A summary of the International Agency for Research on Cancer's (IARC) report, published in The Lancet Oncology, said that the herbicide had been detected “in air during spraying, in water, and in food”.It had also been detected “in the blood and urine of agricultural workers, indicating absorption”.

...The IARC's report said that its use has increased sharply with the development of genetically modified glyphosate-resistant crop varieties.

” Farmers say that the feed prices have gone up dramatically. This all happened soon after the wide spread use of GMO seed.”

If you go to the ethanol thread, you will see it is due to the use of corn for gasohol ...

“You can read many, many articles in GeneWatch “

LOL. You believe what the people from Greenpeace have to say?

” sheep who graze of the BT cotton. “

Controlled studies show that sheep that graze on bT cotton have no problems.

Interesting how this unconfirmed story from India has become such a strong point from the anti-GMO group.

“cotton feed has been implicated in animal toxicity, infertility and, even, deaths. Do a quick google search on the effects in India of Bt brinjal and sheep who graze of the BT cotton.”

http://www.fbae.org/2009/FBAE/website/special-topics_views_why_do_cattle_die_eating_bt_cotton.html

“The Officers of the Department of Agriculture of the Warangal District we met said that sheep death cannot be attributed to Bt cotton and that residual pesticides are probably the cause, and sheep died even before Bt cotton was cultivated in the area.”

“Take for instance the azodicarbonamide they are using in the breads— why? If you put this in bread in Singapore you’d get 15 years in prison. “

I also read on the internet that if you don’t flush the toilet in Singapore you get a public caning ...

“Look up a researcher by the name of Dr. Pustzai. He was a huge advocate of GMOs. He conducted a study in the 90s and was completely shocked by the results. It was a study on GM potatoes and rats. Ultimately what the study showed was that the group of rats fed the GM potatoes were showing damage to their intestines and immune systems while the rats not being fed the GM potatoes did not. “

You have not read the truth. You only react to the anti-GMO crowd propaganda.

“We also know that the plant then produces the toxin 1000s of times more than would ever be used as a topical pesticide.”

https://gmoanswers.com/ask/cry1ab-toxin-corn-pollen-pregnant-women

The amounts of Bt protein produced by all crops combined in the U.S. on an annual basis is much lower than the amount of chemical sprays used, to the point that it doesn’t contribute much to the total pesticide use.

Hey, I WANT you to be right.

But, the way Monsanto et al conducts itself and the control of the studies makes me skeptical.

Interestingly enough: GMO Answers is funded by the members of The Council for Biotechnology Information, which includes BASF, Bayer CropScience, Dow AgroSciences, DuPont, Monsanto Company and Syngenta. Our members are dedicated to the responsible development and application of plant biotechnology

So, who's propaganda am I to believe?

"Bt plants are shown to have 1000 times more of the Cry protein expressed in kernels than would ever result from use of topical Bt toxin as a pesticide. Now, study after study by independent scientists, especially in the last two years, is producing evidence of the toxicity of the Bt transgene and the transgenic Bt plants"

It's a process for sure. Interestingly I was living overseas for a few years, (eating real food because they have real food) and I felt great. My husband who always suffered from indigestion and all the classic middle aged male stuff wasn't having any of it. He lost 20 pounds in the first three months.

I had to look up Graves because I did not know what it is. I have two friends with thyroid problems. I have many friends with autoimmune problems. All in the 35-45 range. I have one with very severe IBS that has to eat a very restricted diet. The two with the thyroid stuff. One who just developed RSD. My nephew (35) has sometihng called sarcoidosis. Which he has manged to control with an all organic diet. Incidentally, I have another loose "friend" with sarcoidosis also. I probably could list a few more.

Ofcourse, I have no idea why any of these people have developed these conditions, just like you have said. I can only theorize and make logical guesses

I just don't get the hostility towards choice and knowledge.

CRG’s bill of rights (no bias here ...):

3. All people have the right to a food supply that has not been genetically engineered.

they are just deaths. period. Getting the truth is hard. I only posted what I could find with little effort with no agenda.

good grief. I do believe the drop in deaths due to non-smoking was mentioned at the source or in another article I read.

Back around 1900 people didn’t live long enough to die from cancer. Women died at a young age in childbirth, children from childhood diseases, many from infections before the discovery of antibiotics, etc., and lots of medical events and complications that people these days now survive. Heck, back then strep throat could be a death sentence.

It's even worse than being sprayed. It's being genetically modified to produce the toxins (pesticides).

Um,where the heck did you get this info? Source?

The crops are NOT genetically modified to produce pesticides, they are genetically modified to be resistant to glycophospate. That way, when the glycoposhate is used, it only kill the weeds and leaves the crop alone.

I know, but I was working with the ag industry when GMO seed became widely used. The jump in food prices came before the use of ethanol was mandated. So GMOs being the only positive influence in keeping prices low doesn’t match the timeline of my experience.

There are so many factors influencing prices. I just know that despite buying less food our grocery bill has gone from 12-25% of our income in the past 10 years.

I hear you, I don’t get it either. It’s funny how people here who believe the government wrecks everything it touches, defend and repeat government info regarding foods, be it GMOs, aspartame, or whatever.

I’m just glad that at this point we are all free to read the many sources of information and discern for ourselves who we trust. The FDA, USDA, etc are at the bottom of my list.
