A powerful message was relayed to hundreds of Tindley Academy students Friday morning.
It was delivered by those standing in the front lines: the chief of police, a juvenile court judge and a US attorney.
They handed out a paper that said:

the mistake in wording came about as a result of the speakers....”thoughts” that each “student” should be treated as though they were “loaded”
Many? How many did and how many didn't?
Yabbut what about tomorrow? Are they going to do this every day?
As usual, promoting ‘feel good’ gestures that mean nothing, so they can tell themselves they’re really making a difference. Morons.
I pledge to cower and be helpless when that ‘bad man with a gun’ invades my space.
I pledge to not allow anyone with any humanity and sense of self-protection to also protect me.
I pledge to go willingly into that realm of misguided martyrs whose ‘voices’ don’t really amount to much in the history of things.
I pledge to be afraid and to support lash-out actions that don’t accomplish anything but to keep the right person from saving me.
I don’t recall having to do this on the rifle team in high school. I guess we’re lucky we didn’t slaughter the entire student body.
I for one am relieved that violence has been removed from our society...
Remember kids, your parents must pay their Fair Share to prevent Gun Violence even when faced by Violent Extremists all in the name of Diversity.
Forward!
Shouldn’t such a thing be implicit in our civilization? You refrain from gun violence, unless you are defending yourself or another. How are we to the point where such a pledge is necessary? Oh, right, liberalism! My bad. They had to tear down (fundamentally transform) that stuffy, old culture that had standards and the like, to replace it with ...... Liberia?
Kids need guns too!
A noble effort with hopes of keeping gun related crimes down. I suggest they take the names of EVERY one of those kids and within the next few years compare it to crimes where guns were involved, then tell me how good that pledge worked. While I am NOT against those kids taking that oath, living by it is another kettle of fish.
Just an observation but looking at the photo, it would appear those “kids” are all of the black race.
Wow an anti-gun violence pledge!
Midnight basketball anyone?
It beats prosecuting gun crimes.
“I pledge that I will not commit violence with a gun. I will beat old ladies to death with golf clubs only. And if some fool gets uppity with me, I will stab his ass. But I pledge that I will not commit violence with a gun, because I know that is wrong.”
They signed a piece of paper? Maybe that will be as effective as those circled gun with the line through it signs.
As I am fond of pointing out in this an other forums "gun violence" is a morally specious category.
The NRA’s Eddie Eagle has much more appropriate guidelines for children who see a gun:
1. Do not touch.
2. Leave the area.
3. Tell a responsible adult.
Unfortunately, “responsible adult” necessarily includes categories of people that include many irresponsible and idiotic members: teachers, cops, and parents. But that’s the world we live in.
I saw a poster outside of a church saying “End gun violence” yada, yada.
I was happy to see, a couple months later, that someone had cut out the word “gun” from the poster.
LOL! Roger that. Too many “responsible adults” these days have no clue about weapons and weapons handling. Witness difi and her excellent trigger discipline. I’m sure somebody has the picture.
