Jeb Bush Condemned Over Speech at Anti-Israel Conference

Leading talk show host and best-selling author Mark Levin assailed Jeb Bush last night over the revelation that one of his top foreign policy advisers, James Baker, will keynote an anti-Israel conference this weekend.

The annual conference of the activist group J Street features an array of anti-Israel speakers, including proponents of the Boycott, Sanctions, and Divest (BDS) movement, which seeks Israel’s destruction, and advocates for the terrorist group Hamas.

Jeb Bush’s selection of Baker as a foreign policy adviser has sparked concern among conservatives and in the Jewish and pro-Israel communities. Baker is infamous for his hostility to Israel, having said during his tenure as secretary of state in the George H.W. Bush administration, “F—k the Jews, they don’t vote for us anyway.” Baker is also a supporter of President Obama’s Iran negotiations.

"It seems like he’s trying to lose it."

He is succeeding beyond all expectations.

"J-Street is a bunch of left-wing Jews. Levin has a way of being well over the top, and he is here."

I'm confused- seems like you might be saying Levin is a left-wing Jew. Am I misunderstanding you?

No offense taken, FRiend, we conservatives have to come together in 2016 and finally nominate a real conservative and quit letting the GOPe speak for us.

Perry didn't hire Haley...it is Haley's nephew.

But...a Barbour is a Barbour and I agree with your sentiments.

When W Bush was in office, the Israelis went into Gaza with airstrikes following terrorist attacks. Condi Rice attacked Israel for defending itself and I remember El Rushbo being incredulous over the whole thing.

This attack on Israel for defending itself from terrorism from the W Bush Administration came not too many years after 9/11.

That does seem to be the pattern, doesn’t it? None of the horses the Republicans have bet on recently appeared to have had a chance at actually winning. I had to hold my nose to vote for them.

Obama has turned the Country, the World and the Constitution on it's ear...Without any real Republican opposition...A Republican President could never have gotten away with this...

I'm not the only one who believes Romney and McCain intentionally threw the elections...

Just like Romney all of a sudden saying he really did not want to be president...

Is that the “moderate” RINOs they were talking about? Way to get the left to your side pulling a stunt like this. I think his wife is a bigot.

Yeah but we gotta support Jebbers. Do you want Hillary to win? /

If we listen to the various purveyors of FUD against the various conservative candidates, that is exactly what will happen. Conservatives will fragment, and Jeb will win the plurality, on the strength of the low-information Republicans and the 'Rat cross-overs.

“I’m not the only one who believes Romney and McCain intentionally threw the elections...”

No you are not. I was astounded by the lightning speed with which Romney left the stage after Obama had been declared the “winner” - almost as if he was following a script. I poured over the precinct returns in key states and could not believe he didn’t utter a word of challenge against obvious fraud. That convinced me that all was not as it appeared to be.

Yes, you are misunderstanding.

J-Street is a bunch of left wing Jews.

Levin, a right-wing Jew, sometimes is over the top in his spin. In his attack on Baker, as a way to attack Jeb Bush, for Baker’s addressing the J-Street group, I believe is over the top, even for Levin.

"I don't get it"

Maybe I can explain it to you. This is really about two conflicts.

(1) The conflict between the two Israeli lobby groups, AIPAC and J Street.

(2) The conflict between two foreign policy groups in the GOP, Realists and NeoCons.

J Street is not an anti Israel group. They disagree with AIPAC as to what course Israel should take to secure Israel. AIPAC has been around for a long time, is very large and wealthy, and have a lot of influence. They give a lot of campaign money to NeoCon Republicans such as senators Tom Cotton and Mark Kirk. They also give a lot of money to Liberal Interventionists democrats like senators Robert Menendez and Chuck Shumer.

J Street is very young and don't have nearly as much money or influence and they tend to give their campaign money to Realists like republican senator Bob Corker and democrat senator Diane Feinstein.

James Baker is a very prominent foreign policy realist. If you were to make a list of "Wise Old Realists" that list would include republicans Henry Kissinger, Brent Scowcroft, James Baker, and George Schultz, plus democrats like Zbigniew Brzezinski, Sam Nunn, and Lee Hamilton. In fact the Iraq Study Group was co-chaired by two wise old realists, Baker(R) and Hamilton(D). And two very prominent realists served on the Iraq Study Group and both would serve as Sec of Defense(Bob Gates(R) and Leon Panetta(D). The Iraq Study Group served to knock 3 prominent NeoCons from their positions of power under GW Bush. Doug Feith the defense undersecretary for policy, Paul Wolfowitz the deputy sec of defense, and the defense secretary Don Rumsfeld. When Bush fired NeoCon Rumsfeld, he first offered the job to Realist James Baker who turned him down so Bush then offered the job to Realist Bob Gates, who accepted and was retained by Obama, and replaced by the realist Panetta, who was replaced by the realist Chuck Hagel, who was replaced by the realist Ashton Carter. Dem Presidents always appoint realists to Sec Defense and sometimes Dem presidents will appoint republican realists like Gates and Hagel under Obama and republican realist Cohen under Clinton.

A GOP candidate for prez like JB has to court both the realists and the neocons, to try to convince both groups that they will have role in his foreign policy decision making. Bush may be courting James Baker today, but last month he was courting the prominent NeoCon Paul Wolfowitz.

If Jeb Bush is elected prez, he will likely appoint a neocon as Sec Def and a realist as SoS and NSA, because that is usually was GOP presidents do.

George Bush appointed Realist Colin Powell as SoS and Realist Condi Rice as NSA and gave the SoD job to neocon Rumsfeld.

GHW Bush gave the SoS to Realist Baker and NSA to realist Scowcroft and SoD to NeoCon Cheney.

These conflicts between the NeoCons and Realist have been going on since the neocons left the dem party in the 70s to become republicans, but the conflict has gotten worse in the post cold war period.

But if you look at the history, under Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, and GHW Bush the Realists were the most influential foreign policy group. But under Clinton, the Liberal Interventionists rose to power and under GW Bush, the NeoCons rose to power. Under Obama, the realists have had the most influence.

Anyway, this article is published at a NeoCon website, the Free Beacon. And the NeoCons want Rubio in the presidency.

Hey, thank you for that correction. I sure muffed up. I could have sworn Haley was the consultant. So if it is the nephew, would he be the nephew that was working the angles in Mississippi with the black community, against our conservative contender? Just curious.
