ATF Director Steps Down Following Days of Rumors
Examiner ^ | March 20, 2015 | staff

UPDATED: B. Todd Jones, director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, confirmed this morning that he is leaving that post, nine days after a leading national gun rights organization called on him to step down or be fired primarily because of the controversy over the agency’s recent proposal to ban a popular type of ammunition for modern sport-utility rifles.

Jones, who is departing March 31, was appointed director of the scandal-plagued agency in 2013. Last week, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms called for his resignation or dismissal in the wake of a major debacle over a proposal to ban the M855 cartridge by changing its classification to an "armor piercing" round because it can also be used in certain handguns.

The proposal caused an uproar, and the ATF was deluged with more than 80,000 comments, most of them opposing the proposed ban. The agency has temporarily withdrawn the idea, but has not officially scrapped it.

...
“This gives ATF another chance to clean up its act,” Gottlieb observed. “However, based on their past behavior, I still don’t have confidence that they will now suddenly improve their performance. That remains to be seen, and Congress needs to keep the agency on a tight leash.”

Jones became acting director of the agency in August 2011 at the height of the Fast and Furious scandal. A series of public hearings before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform that revealed a horribly mismanaged operation resulting in the trafficking of an estimated 2,000 guns to Mexican criminal elements.

Sounds to me like someone told director he had his back then tossed him under the bus. Director didn’t like it.

I don’t see why he did.
They don’t care if there’s outrage. Their unwritten mandate is to shave away lawful behavior by any means possible. Shelving the idea was enough for them, plan merely on pause, leaving the populace to settle down and get distracted by other issues elsewhere.
Short of personally tired of dealing with it, methinks he’d have not left without directive from the top.
Unless it’s because he did make the attempt, or rescinded the attempt, _without_ approval from the top.

During the early Roman Empire they used to flog them to death with iron chains. Very low recidivism rate.

He will be replaced by someone with less of a conscience. The ratchet and pawl mechanism of the socialist machine.

And the rotating chairs over at the ATF continue. I don’t think that they have had a Director last more than 2 years in some time.

NRA probably got on line photos of him having sex with Hilliarly in Hill’s basement by her server, after Hill’s server was hacked by kids in junior high.

There is more than a wrong call on a bullet by a dumb left wing bureaucrat to make this clown resign so quickly.

I’m honestly disappointed not to see this story running on the huffy post. It’d be fun.

Yeh like looking into why the ATF was in Mainstreet Guns in Lilburn, GA on Tuesday morning mass photo copying 4506’s right out of the binder 40 at a time. Personally witnessed by Mr. GG2. Can you say illegal?

Obama hasn’t appointed a competent official to head any government agency, esp. the women (who have failed in every position they have held. Another resigned the other day. ICE, IRS, DEA, HHS, Navy, Air Force (still there unfortunately), possibly ATF, EPA (still there but hopefully not for long), etc. State Dept. is so full of losers that they will have to open a new Unemployment Office just to handle their applications.

ATF should be abolished and reestablished with a better division of labor and leaders.

We need to resurrect that practice - starting with the tyrannical treasonous Muslim O-Hole presently occupying the oral office.
