The Arab Israelis are neither the Palestinians in the Palestinian Authority Territories and they are not those in Gaza.

If the PA and Hamas were to gain an independent state, that would not affect the Israeli Arabs (who can vote, as those other two cannot vote). The Israeli Arabs would still be Israeli citizens and they would vote for members of the Knesset.

If the PA and Hamas gained an independent state, those people would vote in their own elections, and they would have nothing to do with the Knesset. Actually, they already vote in their own elections, anyway.

I was talking about the PA and Hamas, and you transferred that over to those Arab Israeli citizens. The people in the PA Territories and Hamas’ Gaza are NOT Israeli citizens ... :-) ...

As far as what would keep Netanyahu from changing his position back to the way it was before the election? Well, his credibility and the fact that someone from his own party would probably shoot him! Well, they might not shoot him, but that would be so serious of a “waffle” just for the sake of getting elected, that they would run him out of Israel after a bit of tar and feathers ... :-) ...

You said that the main block or problem is the Palestinian’s refusal to recognize Israel’s right to exist. No, that’s actually not the main holdup to Israel getting a final status agreement for forming a Palestinian State. The big issues would be a disarmed Palestinian State, and having Israeli troops on the border of Jordan as a buffer and to block arms from coming in and the limiting of Palestinian sovereignty in order to guarantee Israeli security and the acceptance of “no right of return” by the Palestinians, and the status of the Temple Mount (whether Jews or Palestinians will control it) and the status of Jerusalem (as to whether it will be divided or not).

The recognition of Israel’s right to exist is the LAST THING on that list at at the VERY BOTTOM.

IN FACT, they don’t even have to have that, as long as those other things get worked out.

BUT ... the PROBLEM here is that the Nationalists want NOTHING OF THAT and don’t care about those points as they don’t want a Palestinian State AT ALL to even bother with those points.

If Netanyahu went to the extent of saying that there would never be a Palestinian State if he is elected Prime Minister, it would be an EXTREME BETRAYAL for Netanyahu to have FOOLED the Nationalists like that. That was the vote he was going after.

I’m not talking about the Israeli Arabs voting in the Israeli elections, I’m talking about the Palestinian Authority and how they want to attain a Palestinian State (namely NOT through negotiations, which Netanyahu just nixed) ... and about Hamas (who want no negotiations at all with the PA engaged in them, as that takes away from their power and credibility and Netanyahu does that for them).

The Israeli Arabs, who are voting citizens in the State of Israel operate under a different political dynamic and they would align with the left, against Netanyahu.

Each group has their own interests ... :-) ...

I think he sees himself as non-religious and cosmopolitan, cultured and cultivated. And along with that he has a big dose of “self-importance”.

I don’t think that he believes IN THE LEAST a single thing out of the Bible, much less the concept of an Anti-Christ ... :-) ... And I also don’t think he believes the least thing of the Koran and Islam, but he does favor that cultural group of people, just because he thinks they should have more power in the world and that their culture should be more respected. So, he caters to them.

He thinks he is smart and knows the way the world works, but he is incredibly foolish and stupid and bungling ... and he has no patience to learn about these things, so he ignores them and goes golfing instead, leaving it up to someone else to figure out, without any guidance or input from him.

Darn right, it’s GREAT news! BiBi is the MAN! Go Israel! A REAL leader for his Country. We had our own great one in RR, but that was the last one we had in America. I’m not Jewish but I have a few good friends that are, and they thrilled with this election news today!

‘Yeah, but on Domestic issues ... Netanyahu would also sound like a Democrat to many FReepers.’

And what? Both JFK and Bill Clinton would make strong right wing politicians in Vietnam or Cuba.
Most of the nations in the world are generally more leftist than America, including Israel.
An honest US democrat is looking quite conservative when surrounded by true marxists.

The problem there is that Israel is nothing like Cuba or Vietnam, in any way ... :-) ...

The PA wanted Herzog for two reasons.

1.) It doesn't matter that Herzog wanted to negotiate. The PA would have sabotaged the Herzog negotiations. They've been doing that for decades regardless of who is PM.

2.) Herzog is weaker than Natanyahu when it comes to defending Israel.

LOL. True:) Just like hell, leftism has many circles:) Some are deeper and worse than others but comparison still stands.

You guys like to complain about left wing in America but it is nothing compared to Europe, let alone many other places.

The PA doesn’t want Herzog, because he would look like he WANTS to negotiate ... :-) ... thereby undermining the PA’s begging other countries and the UN to declare a state. And sure they don’t want to negotiate ... but they don’t want to “look like” they don’t want to negotiate. Netanyahu’s change of position now OPENS THE DOOR for all sorts of international help. You’re now going to see a lot more action helping the Palestinians get a state without negotiations, which is precisely what the PA is after.

That is most likely true about Hetzog and the defense of Israel, but the PA is not the one who has been attacking Israel or is about to attack Israel. Hamas has been attacking Israel and Iran has the potential of attacking Israel in the future. The PA is not going to be a threat to Israel, militarily speaking.

I was not confusing Israeli Arabs with Hamas and PA Arabs in Gaza and West Bank. What I don’t know is how they are likely to vote and how much they might care about Palestinian. You are right that border security, status of Jerusalem, Temple Mount, disarmament, and recent settlements are all critical issues. HOwever, the Palestinian stance that Israel has no right to exist will trump any other efforts to reach reasonable agreement.

You could leave out any statement of Israel’s right to exist and reach a full settlement on all other issues and BE DONE WITH IT ... and it wouldn’t make make one iota of a difference!

How many other countries have “signed a statement” about the USA’s right to exist? ... :-) ... it really makes no difference. A country defends itself and that’s all the statement that they need.

If the PA and the UN wanted a two state solution, they would have had it by now. The PA, Hamas and the UN want to see Israel destroyed and a single PA state to replace it.

Doesn't matter that a weak Herzog would have wanted to negotiate. It wouldn't have stopped them from destroying Israel.

The PA could have certainly had it a long time ago, if they had merely negotiated to that end. But it’s the “negotiations” that’s the problem. That solves all the problems, which cuts the ground out from under them.

To get the state without negotiations means that they can hold on to all those issues, without solving them, which is what they want. It’s not “merely” that they “want it all” ... and don’t want a state in the meantime. It’s that they want a state as an interim measure WITHOUT the negotiations and WITHOUT the settling of the issues, so that they can have a perpetual battle on those issues, going on for generations.

SO yes, they do want their own state, but it’s HOW they want to get it that we’re talking about here. And for that strategy of “HOW” ... Netanyahu fits the script perfectly for them, and more so since he has vowed “no Palestinian State ever”!

Haha wonder if the MSM will just flat out make up that Hussein called Bibi and congratulated him. Hussein has put himself in a very bad, awkward position. He and VJ have egg on their faces. I hope Bibi unleashes his info on BO.

With 99.5 percent of the ballots counted, Likud is increasing its lead with 29 Knesset seats, compared to the Zionist Union’s 24.

The Joint List, the third-largest party, gets 14 seats, followed by Yesh Atid with 11, Kulanu with 10, Habayit Hayehudi with eight, Shas and United Torah Judaism with seven each, Yisrael Beiteinu with six, and Meretz with four.
//////
so if the arabs align with the Zionist Union that’s 40.

Israel just dodged a bullet. Netanyahu stands between them and destruction, I believe.
Yes, I agree. I had a sense of dread if Netanyahu lost. The next couple of years will be hard on Israel, as the world is quickly turning against them, including America.
