I had signed up for twitter a few years ago when it came first out, but never found any use for it. So finally last year I deleted my account

Twitter is what you make of it. Twitter is where breaking news happens, its also interesting as it really gives insight into the sausage making of politics...lots of drama yeah but you can mute or just ignore the idiots. I find it a very useful place to analyze current events.

Although I personally find Twitter a bit too ADHD for me, I can see the value as far as quick, on-site reporting. I remember the Boston lockdown during the search for the bomber kid, and I was checking Twitter for photos of the manhunt. So it has some uses -- as probably most social media, in certain instances.

It's the gratuitous postings or photos that drive me nuts. Like half of Instagram. And 90% of Youtube. The stuff is so pointless that I tune it out. I basically use Youtube to download old songs or film clips.

Has it always been there? Have people who think this way and act this way always been there, but nobody knew because it was never reported ....?

This from my beloved Rush, who bitterly lectured after Obama was re-elected, "Americans just voted for Santa Claus."

Ironic, because a MINORITY of Americans voted "for Santa Claus," and won because Democrats/leftists cheat. Rush is so conditioned believe that for something to be true or the only way anyone can "know about it," it must be validated by having been "reported." Well, the MSM reported and continues to report enthusiastically and frequently about leftists and Democrats, and reported and continues to report skeptically and minimally about conservatives and Republicans. The fact REMAINS that leftists and Democrats are a minority in America. PROOF is that they have to cheat/gin/manipulate votes to win elections. If they didn't, they'd lose because in real numbers they're the minority.

But nobody knew all the lemons who now reveal themselves on twitter because before twitter, "it was never reported" ...!

Exasperating. Rush isn't even aware of how much he is manipulated by the MSM.

Twitter, Facebook, Youtube and so on are all just tools.

The same as the printing press was/is a tool.

Do I not read a book because some books are bad? Or, am I smart enough to determine for myself which area of the book store to stay away from.

Personally I am sick of the self rigorous freepers that jump into a thread to proclaim just how morally superior they are because they don’t... (fill in the blank).

Okay, you got rid of your television before color TV came out. Good for you. But why do you think anyone would care for your opinion if you have not watched any TV since 1965?

Okay, you don’t use Facebook, millions do. Most find the ease of use and the ability to stay connected with family spread out over the globe to be a good thing. For those that don’t know, you can block comments from those you don’t want to hear from, or simply unfriend them. Easy to do.

Youtube is a fun place to visit. I will sometimes just wander around looking at all the new and strange stuff out there. It is now my go to place for product reviews as well as instruction on how to do something. There are old movies, tv shows as well as just entertaining people, all for FREE. If I come across something I don’t like I just click to the next thing. No one forces me to watch any of it.

I don’t twitter, but I don’t care if others do. It is not the end of civilization as we know it.

For the most part it is an age thing. Young people embrace the new technology, and old people curse the young.

Me, I like technology and I use what I find useful and ignore what I don’t.

Give it a rest already

Journalists are starting to be replaced by software robots. Whole article in business and sports are now written by robots. Twitter is something that can be searched by software, so it is easy for a robot to use.

Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, et al came along at the right time to take advantage of:

1. The dumbing down of America.

2. Decreasing lack of common respect for the American way of life.

3. A “hardening” of the populace that wasn’t there until the Republicans and Democrats declared war on each other.

4. The general drift away from Godliness.

5. The rise of a dangerous “I don’t care” attitude.

6. A stunning increase in the number of people on the taxpayer dole. Some call it the government dole, but we’re paying for it.

And others.

I’m on Twitter, have 28,000 decent followers. I get good results.

But yes the foul mouthed airhead Liberal trolls are a sight to behold. The bottom of the barrel. Dealt with three today.

You would not believe how many journalists use Twitter for sources. They are obsessed with Twitter.

However, I will say it is a good way to keep a finger on the pulse of current “breaking” events.

Nice try, but nouns don’t have tenses.

Twitter is a great place to lurk (on the search page) when there is breaking news, or you are looking for recent activity on a topic of interest.

I have two Twitter accounts: a real one, which I never use, and a fake one to keep Twitter from pestering me to log in and to occasionally retweet something clueful or fire off snark at users that annoy me.

As for the dumbing down of news, Twitter is a symptom, not a cause.
