Not better cars than those available today but a better time to live in America than today.

My first car was a 1955 Chevy Bel Air 4 door. It was a tank - just the thing for a teenager. Bumpers and fenders made of steel that could take a whack.

I must confess the first time I tried to fill it up I had a little trouble finding the gas cap. :0)

Nice compilation...that was the year before I started at GM. From there on their market share declined. Not sure if I was the fundamental cause or not...

I would much prefer the old cars with bench seats and no seat belts, and a totally free environment inside.

My first car was a 1955 Chevy Bel Air 4 door.

Same here, and it didn't need a key either, the ignition switch was worn and would turn without a key.

I’ve got a 67 E-Type Jag roadster sitting in my garage. I had a 67 E-Type coupe in High School.

It was a complex quasiquiddity of beast, coolness (IMI) and technology.:0)

The radios in them had a vibrator tube and sometimes you literally had to pound the dash to get the radio to play (at least in old ones).

I hit that dash so hard sometimes it hurt my fist, but not one dent I could see.

a better time to live in America than today.
In many respects, but ...
- blacks were already rioting and burning down cities all across America
- political assassinations (or attempts) were not uncommon
- the VN War was heating up with the number of draft notices increasing dramatically.

Then it was a ‘56 because the ‘55 had a flap on the left rear fender. The ‘55 was my first real car too, and I wish I had it back, because they are worth a lot of money today. But then so is my ‘63 split-window Stingray that I bought in 1964.

My Dad had several (66&68) Wildcats and yup, those tires would chirp going through the gears.
