Things are going to look a lot different in IndyCar this year.

Since 2012 all of the teams competing in the series have used the same car to keep the racing close and control costs, with only the engines and paint schemes to set them apart.

The open wheel racers are designed and built by Dallara, and cost about $349,00 each, but starting this season the two engine manufacturers, Chevy and Honda, will also be providing unique aero kits that will allow teams to modify the performance of their vehicles by changing the bodywork.

I quit watching Indy several years ago because of the mufflers and ridiculous body work. I guess it's time to double down.

It’s pretty much what F1 have been doing for several years.

The multiple gaps and flow surfaces on the wings make the air flow more predictable and reduce turbulence.

Ugly but effective.

That car looks a LOT better in the Chevrolet livery. The dark paint helps mask the multi-planed front wing.

Hey, if they allow the cars to handle better and increase speeds in the corners then got for it. I look forward to watching how it plays out.

I imagine, if they had remote control cars they could even go faster and tighter around corners. Go for it!

Hey, if toys are your thing those types of RC car tracks are out there. But I much prefer Indy car racing.

And this (expensive) carbon fiber stuff gets knocked off on every corner on the road course races. Really adds to the cost of competing.

Those are the road course (high aero downforce) parts.

The superspeedway kit is a good bit different I suspect (to debut at Indy in May).

Indycar and nascar these days are kit cars (Gubment racing). No unsanctioned innovation.
