University of California, Irvine has banned the “imperialist” American flag in “inclusive” spaces. Portions of the official resolution read:
Whereas flags not only serve as symbols of patriotism or weapons for nationalism, but also construct cultural mythologies and narratives that in turn charge nationalistic sentiments.
Whereas the American flag has been flown in instances of colonialism and imperialism.
Whereas symbolism has negative and positive aspects that are interpreted differently by individuals.
Whereas designing a culturally inclusive space is taken seriously by ASUCI
Whereas the removal of barriers is the best option at promoting an inclusive space.
Whereas it is a psychological effect for individuals to identify negative aspects of a space rather than positive ones.
Whereas freedom of speech, in a space that aims to be as inclusive as possible can be interpreted as hate speech.
Let it be resolved that ASUCI make every effort to make the Associated Students main lobby space as inclusive as possible.
Let it further be resolved that no flag, of any nation, may be hanged on the walls of the Associate Student main lobby space.
Let it be further be resolved that if a decorative item is in the Associate student lobby space and issues arise, the solution will be to remove the item if there is considerable request to do so.

Apparently the student council was trying to get at the vice president of student affairs who displays a flag outside his office door, and had nothing to do with ‘feeling inclusive.’ There is no ‘official’ flag displayed in the lobby, just the one the vp put up.
It was a targeted attack.
Matthew Guevara should be shipped back to wherever his ancestors came from. Shippage in separate containers might be cheaper. :)

What was their beef with the vice-president of student affairs?
They should have the strength of their convictions and refuse any financial assistance derived from taxes paid by us imperialist taxpayers.
They should also demand that their college do likewise and send back any such assistance already receives.
Accepting financial assistance from those of us they abhor is a barrier to the ultimate purity of their college experience and is an invisible wall between themseves and the criminals and third-worlders who are their brothers and sisters in their struggle against imperialist America.
No flag = no U.S. funding.
Ted Cruz should introduce that bill.

It should be obvious to a person that they’ve gone logically wrong somewhere when they’ve twisted freedom of speech to be hate speech.
It Should be, but it isn’t.
If “space” is what they want let’s send them there. The rockets could leave daily until all of these nuts have gone to “space”. I would even contribute to their departure costs.

A University of California Irvine student executive cabinet on Saturday vetoed a resolution banning the American flag from the lobby of the student government offices, KNBC-TV reported, noting a post on the school’s website.
...The resolution further said the U.S. flag can convey “American exceptionalism and superiority” and that “freedom of speech, in a place that aims to be as inclusive as possible can be interpreted as hate speech.”
