At college town hall, President Obama tells of people lobbying for ‘machine guns in bars’

Talk about a softball “question” — that wasn’t even a powderpuff question — but we’re sure President Obama didn’t mind the ego boost as he hosted a town hall event at Benedict College in Columbia, S.C., Friday afternoon. The overriding theme of the event was supposed to be the economy and youth opportunities, but the president, on his first visit to the state, couldn’t stop himself from confusing global climate change with something called “the weather.”

It is none of the government’s business if there are machine guns in bars or not. ( and we’d be a lot safer with guns in bars than with, just hypothetically, a communistic IslamoNazi illegal alien in our WHouse)

Gotta figure. The American revolution was born in the pubs and the churches.

But, but, but...we have to protect you (’we’ being the gubmint):

No smoking in bars (in many States)
No guns in bars (in many States)
No gambling in bars (in all States I presume...they want you to play sanctioned games)
No unlicensed beer or spirits in bars (all States)

But we’ll be waiting for you when you stagger out of the bar and get in your car after engaging in consumption of highly-taxed beer & spirits and spending your paycheck on our licensed ‘games’, because now we have to protect the rest of the people from you. But we’ll offer you help for that gambling addiction after it’s wrought hell on your life, because we’re here to help.
And by the way, since we don’t permit you to carry guns in bars, we’ll be there to fill out the forms and investigate after whatever mayhem/fights/injuries/murders occurred in that designated gun-free zone, because we do paperwork really, really well. We excel at ‘reports’...
/s

I’m not ‘20-something’ anymore, thus I have to ask the question: Why do people go to bars anymore and pay a premium for EVERYTHING, including massive penalties if you have too much to drink? (no testers in bars in my State...)
I just don’t get it.

(Yes, I intentionally avoided comment on the OP topic; bars we can change...we can’t change that idiot til next election)
(OOPs...commented anyway)

I grew up in a town with 12 churches ( and 13 bars). The pastors claimed not to like the bars very much but they knew they were outnumbered and after prayers there werent many other places to go.....

Here’s hoping that Benedict College meets the same fate as Sweet Briar.

While I may think leaving firearms out of bars is probably a good idea, it’s still just part of the trade-off our founders made when they gave us the second amendment. A very wise decision, IMHO. But either way on that, it’s still therefore none of the govt’s business if someone carries a gun into a bar or not.

What about people who bite Toast’em Pop-Ups Frosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon Toaster Pastries into the shape of a gun?

Did Buckwheat mention that?

http://bearingarms.com/unwilling-abide-stupid-texas-gun-laws-hero-kills-2-4-armed-robbers/

I never have seen any follow up on the armed bar patron that stopped the robbers cold...last I read (including just now), the Harris County Sheriff’s office stated,

“We’re still trying to determine who he is, and why he left the scene,”

(and the authorities had arrived in due course to fill out the reports and collect the bodies...as stated)

Thanks.
There will be some incidents where the presence of guns helps people, even saves their lives.
There will be other incidents where the opposite is true.
My point was simply that our Founders were grownups who understood what guns can do. And waht liquor can do.
And they determined that any bad incidents from people bearing arms was still.... far.far.far...far...far...far.. preferable...to denying citizens their natural right of self-defense.... and especaially as against goverments gone bad.... like King George (who tried to disarm the Americans) and like....well....you can supply at least one obvious modern example I’m sure....
