"Presidents should get the power to declare economic emergencies along the lines to declare war,"
As noted by others this would amount to giving the President the power to close the banks, nationalize retiremnet accounts and confiscate all privately held gold.

He wouldn’t be bringing this up if he didn’t see an economic crises coming. And coming fast.

Why? To manipulate the economy and win elections. The same reason why Congress wants more control over the Fed.
