Obama "Very Interested" In Raising Taxes Through Executive Action

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest confirmed Monday that President Obama is "very interested" in the idea of raising taxes through unilateral executive action.

"The president certainly has not indicated any reticence in using his executive authority to try and advance an agenda that benefits middle class Americans," Earnest said in response to a question about Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) calling on Obama to raise more than $100 billion in taxes through IRS executive action.

"Now I don't want to leave you with the impression that there is some imminent announcement, there is not, at least that I know of," Earnest continued. "But the president has asked his team to examine the array of executive authorities that are available to him to try to make progress on his goals. So I am not in a position to talk in any detail at this point, but the president is very interested in this avenue generally," Earnest finished.

Sanders sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Jack Lew Friday identifying a number of executive actions he believes the IRS could take, without any input from Congress, that would close loopholes currently used by corporations. In the past, IRS lawyers have been hesitant to use executive actions to raise significant amounts of revenue, but that same calculation has change in other federal agencies since Obama became president.

Even the Parliament in London did not allow George III to just raise taxes because he wanted! The last king that thought he could do that lost his head!

And THIS is what we’ve come to?

At this point, Obama is a virtual dictator. He can and will do anything he wants. He neither fears nor respects COngress or Public Opinion on ANYTHING.

Boehner and McConnell and their acolytes are to blame. They are criminals.

Either Obama has bought these two idiots off or has something on them. The ONLY explanation.

He should move forward with his plan of banning private ownership while the GOP is drawn in the fetal position.

Doesn't seem so crazy now to think maybe he'll find a way to stay in office more than just another 2 years, does it?

Why not? He already dictates Obamacare law changes by fiat. Fine line between that and raising taxes anyway.

Does Obama get to choose where the extra taxes are spent?

I read "Atlas Shrugged" again in response to Obama. One of the biggest flaws in that book was the degree to which the villains were unrealistic:

“Did you really think we want those laws observed?" said Dr. Ferris. "We want them to be broken. You'd better get it straight that it's not a bunch of boy scouts you're up against... We're after power and we mean it... There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted – and you create a nation of law-breakers – and then you cash in on guilt. Now that's the system, Mr. Reardon, that's the game, and once you understand it, you'll be much easier to deal with.”

Now that I've seen Obama, I know that Dr. Farris was actually understated. We are facing a level of pure evil that I was too naive to understand really exists. The mistake was not jumping from the rule of law to Obama's world; no one could be that foolish. The mistake was permitting FedGov to jump from the rule of law to a world in which Wickard v. Filburn was possible, and then from that world to the "Living Constitution", which set the stage for a complete dismissal of the rule of law. Now we have rule by decree - anarchy.

Our only hope for a peaceful restoration of constitutional government is to elect a president in 2016 who will roll back the mission creep in FedGov. Otherwise, it's time to give up on achieving the twin goals of peace and restoring freedom; we'll ahve to choose only one.

He isn’t raising rates. He wants to tax the money that corporations have made abroad, which they have already paid foreign taxes on. Look for more businesses to incorporate in other countries instead of U.S.

Why not? Congress has shown they will roll over for him on just about anything else. This is the logical next step.

I have no reason to think that this group of thugs can send us all to the gulag & NOBODY in CONgress would oppose. This place IS a dictatorship.
