Just as good, why not just pay me to not work?

First step will be eliminating cashiers by replacing them with touch-screen ordering systems coupled with payment systems like grocery self-checkout units.

The unforeseen, unintended consequences of the actions made by those who know nothing about supply/demand (or anything vaguely free-market economic, for that matter...).

What these socialists forget to do is mandate that every employer must keep every employee, at any price, at any cost. I expect that these touch-screen order systems will become the standard very soon. W-M has their self check-out system working pretty well these days.

I don’t know why this is keeping Jody Hall awake at night. Its not like theres any ambiguity here; she’s going to have to close her businesses because of the higher minimum wage.

So why lose sleep over something thats so predetermined?

It’s a shame that I don’t live there. Each time one of her shops closed I’d go tape a copy of that “Sometimes your purpose in life is to act as a warning to others” demotivational poster above the “closed” sign on her front door.

Years ago Giant supermarkets got into a fight with their union over wages and benefits, and ultimately caved to the demands.

Which should have raised prices by a decent amount. But didn’t.

Reason, afaict, is that they quickly cut their cashiers by 2/3rds by putting in automated checkouts.

Which I started using, exclusively. Even during times when the one or two cashiers that still operate have open lanes.

I figure that the way things are going, cashiers will eventually be eliminated completely. Grocery carts will have built in bag dispensers for self-bagging as you go, and tallying at the self-service register will be automatic using RFID chips embedded in the groceries, eliminating the need to scan the items individually.

“W-M has their self check-out system working pretty well these days. “

As well as nearly ALL the grocery stores.

And fast-food ordering is WAY simpler than grocery checkout.
