Lithuania said Saturday it had signed a trade agreement to buy liquified natural gas from the United States in a move aimed at reducing the EU Baltic state’s heavy dependence on Russian gas deliveries.

Under the deal with Houston-based Chenier Energy company, the first LNG fuel is expected to arrive in Lithuania as early as next year, state-owned company Litgas said in a statement.

It makes you wonder. Did the US instigate the Ukraine issue in order to steal gas and oil contracts from Russia? Would this be considered an act of war? Oh, wait, we overthrew 2 countries and helped overthrow 2 others in the last 6 years without any US resolutions. Makes Bush and Iraq look like playing in the playground. This administration is engaged in more terrorism than the Islamic terrorist are

Well, between this and all the new and upcoming NG fired power plants how long will it take for our home heating costs to go up 50-100%. Everybody has for years said we have a virtual unlimited supply of NG and that is just not the case.

Being an “awl” man from Texas I can appreciate the fact slightly higher prices are needed for NG drilling to continue but I fear the demand will outstrip the short term capacity to replace inventories.

“This agreement entered into with Cheniere ... will provide us access to the prolific US natural gas market,” Litgas General Manager Dominykas Tuckus said.

Lithuania’s first floating LNG terminal started commercial activity in January, becoming the first such facility to sever Moscow’s grip on gas deliveries to the Baltic states.

The nation of three million will initially import 0.54 billion cubic meters of gas from Statoil in 2015, covering about one-fifth of its demand.

The first US LNG export terminal is expected to starts its operations later this year.

The Baltic states’ reliance on Russia for gas is a legacy of its five decades of Soviet rule, which ended in 1991.

Members of the EU and NATO since 20014, Lithuania and fellow Baltic states Latvia and Estonia are concerned about Russia’s actions in Ukraine and fear that Moscow could attempt to destabilize its Soviet-era Baltic backyard.

“LNG exports by the US may weaken the position of Russia which uses its energy resources as an energy weapon to blackmail countries dependent on Russian gas,” Lithuania’s Energy Minister Rokas Masiulis said this week.

It looks like Putin’s war making and foreign policy incompetence, is causing Russia even greater problems.

It seems that Lithuania is going to get US LNG before Boston.

And it was just ten months ago...

Son of U.S. Vice President Biden Joins Ukraine Gas Company

May. 13 2014

http://www.themoscowtimes.com/business/article/son-of-us-vice-president-bide n-joins-ukraine-gas-company/500062.html

Looks like a beachhead is being established in Lithuania to get U.S. gas to Belarus, Ukraine, Latvia and Estonia.

I cant find a direct link from Burisma to Lithuania, other than yes, this is will get things rolling.

OK, want to have some more fun?

Try here...

http://www.nakedcapitalism.com/2014 /05/r-hunter-biden-declare-owns-new-ukrainian-employer-burisma-holdings.html

R. Hunter Biden will be in charge of the Holdings’ legal unit and will provide support for the Company among international organizations. On his new appointment, he commented: “Burisma’s track record of innovations and industry leadership in the field of natural gas means that it can be a strong driver of a strong economy in Ukraine. As a new member of the Board, I believe that my assistance in consulting the Company on matters of transparency, corporate governance and responsibility, international expansion and other priorities will contribute to the economy and benefit the people of Ukraine.”

“This is totally based on merit,” said Burisma’s chairman, Alan Apter.

He doesn’t sound very Ukrainian. He’s American, as is the other new board member, Devon Archer.

Who? Devon Archer, who works with Hunter Biden at Rosemont Seneca partners, which is half owned by Rosemont Capital, a private equity firm founded by Archer and Christopher Heinz.

Who? Christopher Heinz … John Kerry’s stepson.

Yeah, you can quit rubbing your eyes, it's real.

http://burisma.com/en/director-list.html

More excerpts...

So, is Privat Group actually the owner of Burisma?

Privat Group is a conglomerate controlled by the ferocious Ukrainian oligarch Ihor Kolomoisky.

Kolomoisky is one of the oligarchs charged with holding down the Eastern provinces of Ukraine.

Kolomoisky might well have wanted something that looked an American protector, and got it, in the form of the VP’s son.

There is a massive amount of detail at the above link, here it is again.

http://www.nakedcapitalism.com/2014 /05/r-hunter-biden-declare-owns-new-ukrainian-employer-burisma-holdings.html

Again, no direct link but given the terrain and situation I see a Tango breaking out on the dance floor.

.

Re your post #15
Don’t know if you can make much out some familial (Heinz/Kerry) relationships. The Biden appointment however probably to the desperate Ukainians draws American interests and funding to their sizable shale oil deposits and depends if and where the majority of their holding are elsewhere as well as the markets they service. But they do have a ready market in the Ukraine.

In Lithuainia’s case it’s a small country the way I see for them it was a wise move even though from what I understand those imports will only serve a 5th of their market. Leastwise the Russians won’t be able to “freeze them to submission”.

“It seems that Lithuania is going to get US LNG before Boston.”

That is Boston’s own fault for its help in having the State of Massachusetts prohibit natural gas pipelines to deliver natural gas to customers in Massachusetts.
