Rep. Tom Emmer lashes out at fellow Republicans (Fake Tea Party/MN)

WASHINGTON -- Mere weeks into his first term as a U.S. congressman, Republican Rep. Tom Emmer is challenging the right flank of his party.

Just after midnight Saturday, Emmer issued a statement calling out Republican House colleagues who don't support fully funding the Department of Homeland Security because of President Barack Obama's executive action on immigration.

(snip)

"I am disappointed that many of my colleagues chose to put the security of Americans at stake and waste time playing politics," said Emmer, who replaced Rep. Michele Bachmann in January. "Congress has a solemn responsibility. As a body, we should never hold America's safety hostage simply for political gamesmanship ... With recent terror threats to the Mall of America hitting so close to home and the potential need for natural disaster relief in Minnesota during the winter months, it is imperative we approve the funding the DHS needs."

Tom Emmer played Tea Party to get elected as Michele Bachmann's successor. Minnesota Freepers, especially those in CD-6, need to make this clown feel the heat.

Yes, we need to fund the DHS, because it is the ONE THING that the Founding Fathers wanted to preserve... LOL! :)

If this is true (You can’t necessarily believe the Strib) it will make Emmer a disappointment of epic proportions.

DHS protects Hollywood’s copyright. WTH does that have to do with threats against the Mall of America? His argument doesn’t make sense. Defunding DHS will lead to a lack of enforcement of border security? Obama is ordering them to not prosecute as it is.

DHS is separate from the FBI and Pentagon.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homeland_security

According to Homeland security research, the U.S. federal Homeland Security and Homeland Defense includes 187 federal agencies and departments,[2] including the United States National Guard, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the United States Coast Guard, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, the United States Secret Service, the Transportation Security Administration, the 14 agencies that constitute the U.S. intelligence community and Civil Air Patrol. Although many businesses now operate in the area of homeland security, it is overwhelmingly a government function.

However, much of the nation’s homeland security activity remains outside of DHS; for example, the FBI and CIA are not part of the Department, and other executive departments such as the Department of Defense and Department of Health and Human Services play a significant role in certain aspects of homeland security. Homeland security is coordinated at the White House by the Homeland Security Council, currently headed by John Brennan.

Given his campaign for governor against Dayton, “D” must stand for “drunk”.

The Civil War was fought to preserve the Department of Education.

How disappointing; Emmer used to be a strong common sense conservative; they must have gotten to him to turn him into mush.

This jerk’s statement sounds like a press release straight from the White Hut.

Another one to throw out next year.

Emmer talked a good game when he co-hosted the morning show on the Twin Cities’ conservative talker station.

Emphasis on “talk”.

Is this the same DHS which allows thousands of illegals to enter every week?

DHS is as useless as warm spit. It is just an extension of Obama’s regime. We need a better agency with non-political executives running the place.

If it only took since January to turn him around perhaps he was not very conservative to start with.
