You're wrong. Putin is allies with Iran and Syria, even supporting them in their WMD programs. There are also a large number of FSB/KGB defectors who point the finger at the Kremlin for world wide terrorism. The KGB were talking about utilizing Islam as a weapon against the West decades ago. Guys like Pacepa and Litvinenko even declare Al-Qaeda to be a Russian project.
Don't confuse Russian oratory with Russian reality. This is a country where child pornography and abortion is perfectly legal (in fact, they have the highest abortion and divorce rate in Europe). Only 2 to 3 percent of the population even bothers to show up to church on an Easter.
