Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) spoke at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Oxon Hill, Md., on Feb. 26, 2015. Cruz was questioned by Fox television personality Sean Hannity. (CNSNews.com/Penny Starr) (CNSNews.com) - Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said among his top five priorities for the United States is to abolish the IRS at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Oxon Hill, Md., on Thursday.
Sean Hannity of Fox News asked Cruz what his top five agenda items are for the country.
Number one, said Cruz. Repeal every blasted word of Obamacare.
Number two, abolish the IRS, take all 125,000 IRS agents and put them on our southern border, said the senator.
Number three, stop the out of control regulators at the EPA and the alphabet soup of Washington.
Number four, defend our constitutional rights - all of them, and
number five, restore Americas leadership in the world as a shining city on a hill.
Hannity also asked Cruz to say the first words that came to his mind when he mentioned some names.
Hillary Clinton, Hannity said.
Washington, replied Cruz.
Bill Clinton, Hannity said.
Youth outreach, Cruz joked.
Barack Hussein Obama, Hannity said.
Lawless Imperator, said Cruz.
I don’t care what order he tackles them in. They can all be tackled at once. The next President will have a cabinet and Congress to do some of the heavy lifting. He should only have to provide direction.
I refuse to be a pessimist. I believe that all of this is possible. Not only possible, but likely. America is sick and tired of government oppression. We are ripe for a revolution which reduces the size of the government and its oppressive bureaucracies. We need Ted and others like him to step up and lead that revolution.
A candidate who stands fast on a sensible agenda like this will sweep the 2016 election.
You assume the hidden taxes go away, but I'll agree that the flat tax at least has the potential to keep an individual's taxes from going up.
Its obvious to me, for example, that a poverty level income wouldnt pay any income tax, flat or not. I disagree with that and personally think everyone should have skin in the game, but Im not an elected official.
The last statistic I saw was that a family of four with an income of close to $50,000 paid no income taxes due to deductions and tax credits. So it's not poor people whose ox is going to get gored, it's the average family. How do you explain to them why they should want to see their taxes go up?
FWIW, my personal favorite is a sales tax, but I dont think well go straight from an income tax to a sales tax.
Then that's a guaranteed tax increase for a huge percentage of the population. How do you sell it?
This. He's slinging red meat, getting people at CPAC to thump their chests. That's all. Shutting down the IRS and sending all their agents to the border? Get real.
I'm increasingly coming to the opinion that Senator Cruz isn't ready for prime-time. We need someone with executive experience. Senator Cruz has none. As the last six years have painfully demonstrated, the White House is no place for amateurs.
You’re welcome.
Errrr...I wouldn't say that Zero is a failure because he "has no executive experience".
Don’t forget the BATFE. They have killed a lot of Americans enforcing stupid rules.
Remember BLM and the Bundy Ranch standoff
All may be true but whoever tries to abolish the IRS is going to be embroiled in a long tangled affair that will block all the other things needed to be done.
It suggests naivete, and certainly does NOT make me want to vote for him, it seems a foolish endeavor.
Lets get real.
Meet you back here in some time. The Irs will outlast us all.
If you look at Cruz’s list, from top to bottom the theme is stopping that which oppresses and violates our rights.
Would you agree that preventing a dictatorship is more important than the keystone pipeline?
