Enough of the social experimentation.

I've never heard of a pre-Ranger course. Is this something new they set up to weed out those that would obviously not make it? Even so, the graduation rate is very low.

That’s weird. I seem to recall female officers in my units with Ranger tabs way back in the 70’s and 80’s. We even had an artillery branch female at Fort Polk, IIRC.

is this a joke

The first phase of RTAC mirrors the assessment phase at Ranger School and is designed to assess a soldier’s physical and mental abilities. During this phase, a student conducts a PT test, a swim test, land navigation, and a 6-mile foot march. The second phase of RTAC, the field training exercise, is designed to assess and train soldiers on troop leading procedures and patrolling, skills that are used extensively during the Ranger School.

On average, about 45 percent of Ranger School students will graduate. As many as 60 percent of all Ranger School failures will occur in the first four days. Many get disqualified during the physical fitness test on the first day. The test gives candidates two minutes to do 49 pushups and two minutes to do 59 situps, and they also must run five miles in 40 minutes and do six chinups.

It’s frigging easy, I do that now at my age every day.

This is supposed to be special forces for crying out loud.

Have they reduced the criteria for people to get in or has this always been easy?

Are women supposed to do the same as the men and if not then this is all B/S.

Yet another social experiment with the military.

Just more dumbing down. If you lower the bar enough anyone can qualify to be a Ranger!

I agree that the idea of having women serve in the Army in higher numbers to satisfy social engineers is bullcrap.

However, this is a total of six women. And this is ranger school; if they can survive that, well, one should feel free to tell them they cannot be rangers but I’m not gonna tell them that if they make it through. And I do think anyone who has survived Ranger School will know what I mean.

No, even Ranger Battalion has a ‘pre-ranger’ course for Ranger school. Without it, an even larger majority of Ranger school candidates would fail. It is a good idea to get a handle on Operations Orders, patrol dynamics and other Ranger school tasks that most fail before you go. Most Infantry brigades and battalions run a version or pre Rangr before you even step foot on Benning. What’s the point of sending a soldier to Ranger school (which costs the unit’s money) if a soldier can’t even pass pre Ranger?

Also, pre Ranger weeds out those (at the unit level) who can’t even pass the swim test, PT Test, land navigation, the 12 mile footmarch etc. A surprising number of people cannot even pass the swim test and land navigation from my own personal experience.

"What we're starting to see, if soldiers fail RTAC for some reason, you have pushups, you have some lack of motivation [where] someone says 'this is not for me' and pulls out," he said.

Looks like an even bigger problem here...soldiers who can't do push-ups anymore.

Some of the comments here attempt to make the Rangers out to be a bunch of chumps.

I served in a unit alongside Rangers, Ranger Instructors, and Ranger POW's- and I'd like those of you saying so much to tell them face to face what you think about the Rangers.

I served with SF too, and they didn't mouth off to the Rangers like some of you keyboard commandos.
