U.S. military decimated under Obama, only ‘marginally able’ to defend nation

The U.S. military is shedding so many troops and weapons it is only “marginally able” to defend the nation and falls short of the Obama administration’s national security strategy, according to a new report by The Heritage Foundation on Tuesday.

“The U.S. military itself is aging. It’s shrinking in size,” said Dakota Wood, a Heritage analyst. “And it’s quickly becoming problematic in terms of being able to address more than one major conflict.”

President Obama’s latest strategy is to size the armed forces so that the four military branches have sufficient troops, ships, tanks and aircraft to win a large war, while simultaneously acting to “deny the objectives of — or impose unacceptable costs on — another aggressor in another region.”

You would think that some of these newly retired military officers would get together and speak out against this administration.

I’m not sure if Rumsfeld has a new book out, but he seems to be more visible in recent weeks.

The thing that has always struck me is that not since Eisenhower has our country had a true military leader take on the political establishment.

These are very serious and very smart patriots that have seem to have been shut out of the political process.

Is there a network of retired military officers that are at least discussing or hopefully organizing themselves to address what is required to reverse the decline of our great nation?

They should be coming out of the woodwork !!!

Wrong word. Decimated means one casualty in 10.

This is Russia’s chance. I understand from another article, he’s pulling out US troops from Alaska.

Alaska might welcome the change of ownership.
I hear tax rates are considerably lower.

To some people there is more to life than money which, I know, is difficult for a libertarian to understand. : )

Retired military personnel told senators that the lack of White House strategy makes US combat efforts in the Middle East unwinnable. One general added that “failed” policy has allowed Al-Qaeda to grow “fourfold” since President Barack Obama’s election.

Gen. Jack Keane joined retired US Marine Corps Gen. James Mattis and retired Navy Adm. William Fallon on Tuesday to testify before the new members of the Senate Armed Services Committee – which for the first time includes veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, such as Republican Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa.

During the testimony, the panel questioned the policy path followed by the Obama administration regarding the battle against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, as well as the war in Afghanistan. Gen. Keane told lawmakers that despite efforts to beat back Al-Qaeda, the group has actually grown over the past few years.

“As you can see on the map, Al-Qaeda and its affiliates exceeds Iran and is beginning to dominate multiple countries. In fact, Al-Qaeda has grown fourfold in the last five years,” he said.

“The Islamic State of Iraq, ISIS, is an outgrowth from Al-Qaeda in Iraq, which was defeated in Iraq by 2009. After US troops pulled out of Iraq in 2011, ISIS emerged as a terrorist organization in Iraq, moved into Syria in 2012. Is it possible to look at that map in front of you and claim that the United States policy and strategy is working? Or that Al-Qaeda is on the run? It is unmistakable that our policies have failed.”

Thank you for your reply on this as well as another.

I suppose that these former military leaders are unable to express their concerns beyond RT or Fox News, and are like the rest of the country waiting to see who replaces Jon Stewart at “Comedy Central”.

Listen.

We all know about the “power vacuum” that occurs when Dictators are disposed and we leave peoples to fend for themselves without any real structure.

We have, today, under this administration a power vacuum that despot leaders would die for.

Objectively speaking.

Is it control of the media that will make the difference?

Our newly retired know what it will take to turn our country around.

Why are they so silent?

Have they given up and fallen into the comfort of their pensions?

I would love to do something but I confess I don’t have a clue how to change things. Contacting representatives just gets you a canned response.

You want to know what’s funny?

Nobody on the left has a clue either.

It’s just that they are the “squeaky wheel” that seems to get the grease.

I suppose it’s all about positioning then.
