Top Democrats said Feb. 23 they will hold the homeland security budget hostage until the GOP’s House caucus agrees to quit its popular anti-amnesty efforts.
“If we are going to avoid a government shutdown on the Department of Homeland Security, we need a commitment from Speaker Boehner that we have a bipartisan, bicameral approval to end this deadlock,” Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin told reporters during a Tuesday press conference in the Senate.
Durbin spoke shortly after the Senate’s GOP Majority Leader Mitch McConnell appeared to submit to the Democrats’ demands that the DHS 2015 budget not curb spending on the president’s November amnesty.
Democrats have filibustered the House-passed DHS budget bill four times just to block the anti-amnesty language.
McConnell agreed Feb. 22 to allow separate votes on a toothless DHS budget bill, and a bill that would curb Obama’s amnesty plans.

Funding the illegal amnesty for illegal aliens after it was found to be illegal by a federal judge is just plain stupid.

Its popular because no one wants amnesty except illegals, 0, lefties, big business, and Soros. The rest of the country (a lot larger percentage) know they wil have to foot the bill and that it will destroy their country.
“Democrats: We’ll Block DHS Funds Until Boehner Surrenders”
If Boehner had a spine, his response would be:
“Boehner: We’ll Continue to Fully Fund DHS Without Obummer’s Illegal Amnesty Until the Dims Surrender”
Bob Dole did the same thing to Newt in the 95 shutdown. At least Newt was trying to win. Boehner was never in favor of this fight, he just wants to put on a decent show before funding illegal executive amnesty.
Hell, the Demonrat minority in the Senate wields more power than the Republican majority can muster.
We need a MASSIVE movement that stops paying taxes. Let them bleed to death.
I predict a temporary funding through March as a wait and see how the Court Appeals go. If the TX Judge and the 5th Circuit deny the Administrations request for a Stay of the Jusge’s order, that will mean an appeal will be filed in the 5th Circuit that will probably take 8-9 months to resolve. That takes us through the remainder of the current FY which ends 30 Sep 2015, If the 5th Circuit denies the appeal (expected) it then goes to SCOTUS which could take us well into 2016. Meanwhile, Congress can fund DHS. One other scenario is that the Justice Dept decides to by-pass the 5th Circuit and go direct to SCOTUS, but they likely would kick it back to the 5th which would further delay any implementation. Keep an eye on this as the action is with the Courts and not the Congress.
I agree shut it down, but when I said the same thing earlier some fellow FR SCREAMED that it means the Air Traffic Controllers and Military would be shut down. Tried to EXPLAIN to them that the military and air traffic controllers would not be shut down. All the Democrats want as the minrioty is to show that they still call the shots. Unfortunately the useless repubs will fold like a house of cards in a 30 mph windstorm.
