Yeah this guy is probably in 10 years tops gonna get murdered in jail so a life sentence vs the death penalty in this case hardly matters.

Hm, interesting but I wonder if it would have changed the outcome...
I think back on the conflicts I’m familiar with and have lived through and while I plead some ignorance on the subject, I have known a number of those who served in theatre and never, to my limited knowledge, went to get their “switch turned off”....
Maybe there was some “naïveté” on Kyle and Littlefield’s part but you could say that about people who go to the mall, movies, schools, etc...
Maybe we’re all naive in this country?

There is indeed a large quantity of “naive” around. I can find it for you at the drop of a hat-—just gimmee a couple minutes and let me talk to the next person thru the door. While my active service time was over half a century ago krap still happens where I am. The basic skill level and general knowledge level of 90% of the folks is nothing short of pathetic so I always assume that when something goes south close to me it’s gonna fall to me to fix it.

I’ll make my case simply: next time you see something dramatic happening just listen for how many people scream, pee, or otherwise blow their cool. They are useless and not to be counted on for any more than lunch. ( Now days the automatic reaction is to start yelling at their cell phone.) And that is most of the people in the area and they frequently must be dealt with before the problem can be solved because they’re imobile and in the freekin’ way. I can’t remember all the times I’ve had to settle down a shrieking, bouncing, woman or shivering, peeing guy before I could get stuff running again.

In the case of the two SEALS they are used to being around competent people and just didn’t recognize soon enough that the rest of the world has higher dumbass content. The Navy has great numbers on this exact thing. Fleet sailors are far safer aboard ship at sea. It’s when they get turned loose back ashore that they start getting hurt.

This was a state-court conviction. The President can only pardon people convicted in federal court.
