I’m all for it! We could use more conservative voters to offset Philadelphia and its vote-manufacturing.

The new PA Democrat governor (Wolf) is not all that friendly to fracking... but our legislature is majority Republican in both the House and Senate.

I’m all for secession TO Pennsylvania, but I am totally opposed to NYC becoming a “51st state.” No way would I want to add two more lib senators, whether they are RINOs or far-leftists like are there now, to the senate.

New York 2004
Broome County is a definite no. That is the county on our norther border shaped like a fist with an extended finger.

Tioga County, to the west of Broome, is a definite yes.

Delaware and Sullivan, the 1st and 2nd to the east of Broome are maybes. This is the 2004 map.

But I thought secession was not permitted, illegal, unconstitutional, etc. Didn’t we fight a war against that? Or is it only OK when the North does it?

Would they be enough to turn a purple state red? (NY would only become deeper blue.)

I’m all for it also. In fact, I’d be willing to trade them Philadelphia. That would turn PA “red” for years to come.

Much better would be to have New York City (plus Long Island) and Philadelphia append themselves to New Jersey. Overnight, the “new” New York State would become a reasonably conservative place, and it seems likely that fracking would be approved in the Southern Tier. And as an extra bonus, the rest of Pennsylvania would become a solid red state.

RE: But I thought secession was not permitted, illegal, unconstitutional, etc.

That was secession FROM the United States. This is secession FROM a STATE.

This is essentially what has destroyed the mid-Atlantic up through New England: a heavily populated Marxist Urban Megalopolis that cuts a gash through VA, MD, DE, PA, NJ, NY, CT, RI and MA. All those states are deep blue, except VA, which is on its way to the same. The outlying, less densely populated areas in those states, for the most part, remain far more conservative.

Looks more like a Pop-Tart chewed into the shape of a gun.

I wonder if the good people of that Blue county have noticed and if they have undertaken steps to reshape their boundaries into something decidedly more...Unicorn-like.

This is true in NJ and DE--I have lived in such areas myself which are conservative, but we were outnumbered by the urban centers.

Can the Adirondack counties secede too?

Less intrusive gun laws in PA too. And you get rid of Mario’s progeny too the whole lot of them. Makes me sad because I really love New York State.

My vote is cancelled every time I vote.

Nothing unconstitutional if all parties involved agree to it.

Unilateral secession is a different story.

When we moved to the Southern Tier in 1986 it high-tech jobs, low crime, low cost of housing, plenty of recreation, and abundant water. By the time we left last year, the jobs were gone. IBM had gone from 12,000 to maybe 1,200 with another few hundred still at Enterprise Interconnect. Singer-Link was essentially gone, GE had left and Endicott Johnson folded. Crime is up and good jobs are scarce. Housing prices have fallen considerably.

Sure, these towns won't be allowed to secede but the people will continue to leave. Students go away to college and don't come back. The empty nesters (like us) flee. That leaves basic infrastructure workers, college students and retirees that won't leave.
