Texas Poll: Scott Walker in Dead Heat with Sen. Ted Cruz

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker appears to be on a roll.

After coming out on top at last month's Iowa Freedom Summit — a surprise to many — Walker is now in a dead heat with Texas Sen. Ted Cruz in the Lone Star state, according to a new University of Texas/Texas Tribune poll.

Walker has stripped Cruz of the 25 percentage-point lead he had in October, The Texas Tribune reports, with the two now in a statistical tie. Cruz had the support of 20 percent of Texas registered voters; Walker had 19 percent.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Ben Carson tied at 9 percent, and former Texas Gov. Rick Perry followed at 8 percent.

They need to be drafting partners.

I prefer Cruz but Walker stands head and shoulders over Bush or Christie.

A fun read about Scott Walker's demeanor around braying liberals:

Sodahead: Non-Wisconsinites, I need to explain something about Gov.Scott Walker to you that you are missing.

I am REALLY hoping it’s one of those two. And walker is my favorite by the slight edge.

I still think Ted Cruz is the better candidate, but the gap is closing because people are beginning to look at Scott Walker as the more electable candidate.

I'm OK with either one, but would like to see Jeb Bush fading into Chris Christie or lower.

When Romney handed Walker his 20pts, naturally Walker surged. There’s a lot more RINO going on in TX than one might believe..

Is that a 4pt MOE I see there?

The base doesn’t trust jebbush.
The GOPe doesn’t trust Cruz
In general, both the base and GOPe perceive Walker as acceptable at this point.

That being said, Cruz is a lot smarter than Walker and Cruz would hold up better during debates and Leftist media attacks. But Walker has played his cards well to date.

I don't think so. His immigration views are fairly typical of most people in the upper midwest. Where there are harsh winters and not a cornucopia of tax-funded freebies, it just isn't a big problem.

I'd describe it more as a naive mentality than an open borders mentality. Naivety is much more likely to be fixed than rigid ideology.

Cruz MUST take more actions on preparing for his candidacy.

The only way Walker beats Cruz in Texas is that Walker is seen as the one better able to beat Bush. Either Walker or Cruz can be Bush (and I am fine with either)...it is just a matter of who is seen as more serious about running.

I think most of Romney’s support went to Jeb; a lesser amount to Walker.

That’s not setting a real high bar.

The Cruzer got a lower percentage of the Texas vote in 2012 than Mediocre Mitt, so it’s not like he was a superstar in the Lone Star state.

That’s what I’m most concerned about.
His statements to date are not encouraging.

He hasn’t been clear what he would do as President about the invasion.

Unless he is clearly on the side of the citizens, rule of law, and American sovereignty I will not be joining the bandwagoneers.

NO MORE CHEAP LABOR IMPORTERS!

Yep. If we want to save this nation, it has to be one or the other. Anything else is just settling for pointless mediocrity.

Walker has stripped Cruz of the 25 percentage-point lead he had in October,

While Jeb has remained more or less at 10%. Yes, Romney handed his 20pts to Walker. Again, not surprising, there’s a large Chamber of Commerce presence here. Cornyn got 59%, his TEA challengers 41% combined.

How is Walker standing up to Clinton in WI in head-to-head polls?

Walker appeals to the Rino brand; he does not see Rino’s as the evil they are, I applaud his efforts in fighting back and reducing taxes; but his Rino stance on amnesty makes him Persona Non Grata as a conservative.

Amnesty in any form is the single most important issue currently on the table that will lead to the final nail in our Constitutional Free Republic, after which all other issues will just be shoveling dirt on the coffin IMO!

this guy (Walker) is a Jeb on immigration

Mygosh, I think you've just coined a new word. Whenever I want to dismiss a candidate as not being with us but pretending to be for election purposes, that's a JEB!! Humor can be an excellent tool for marginalizing a candidate.

Even though the DC crowd is mostly despicable, at least we know how they vote on issues and if they articulate their views in a way that inspires voters. Walker being a governor and being new to the scene makes me nervous. On the other hand, his pro-invader statements came quite a few years ago before we were further inundated by Obama's hordes. Besides that, I think Walker did come out with a statement about how his views on immigration and illegals has changed because of that. I still wonder if there's a little too much Chamber of Commerce in that guy. And I think as far as the governors go, Jindal's doing the best at articulating and inspiring.

That being said, Cruz/Walker might be a nice fit.

“NO MORE CHEAP LABOR IMPORTERS!”

I notice that is the slogan you’re posting to a lot of threads.

Take one hour and listen/watch Gov. Walker give facts while his debate opponent spouts slogans and engages in class warfare.

Walker won.
