Walker’s anti-union law has labor reeling in Wisconsin [grab a cup of coffee and curl up with this]
Washington Post ^ | February 22, 2015 | Robert Samuels

KING, Wis. — At the old union hall here on a recent afternoon, Terry Magnant sat at the head of a table surrounded by 18 empty chairs. A members meeting had been scheduled to start a half-hour earlier, but the small house, with its cracked walls and loose roof shingles, was lonely and desolate.

“There used to be a lot more people coming,” said Magnant, a 51-year-old nursing assistant, sighing.

The anti-union law passed here four years ago, which made Gov. Scott Walker a national Republican star and a possible presidential candidate, has turned out to be even more transformative than many had predicted.

Walker had vowed that union power would shrink, workers would be judged on their merits, and local governments would save money. Unions had warned that workers would lose benefits and be forced to take on second jobs or find new careers.

Many of those changes came to pass, but the once-thriving public-sector unions were not just shrunken — they were crippled......

....In King, population 1,700, Magnant said she couldn’t change a sign at the union hall without someone giving her the finger. Farther west, in Stanley, prison workers said they ditched their favorite pizza pub because the owner stood by while other customers called them “leeches.”....

At the meeting, the husband of the columnist called Walker “a pig” — which prompted the board supervisor to wonder why he was insulting pigs. They debated whether or not it’s worth it to invite Republicans to the education event, but Brey insisted it’s important to keep things balanced. Eventually, the group agreed.....

So true, the changes were not severe.

All walker basically did was say “do you want these @ssholes to take money out of your paycheck automatically or do you want a choice?”

The unions killed themselves.

Scott Walker was elected governor, beat back a union-financed recall attempt, then was reelected to a second term last November. The fact that he won as a Republican three times in a Blue state shows that the electorate—Democrats and Republicans—want an end to public sector unions before they bankrupt the state. Walker and the Wisconsin legislature offer a legal model other states can employ to rid themselves of these blood-sucking parasites.

The teacher’s union was ready to hold out and let teacher’s jobs be cut in order for the union to stay in power.

Walker’s leadership saved teacher’s jobs.

The union was denied all those dues that would have been funneled into the Democratic Party coffers.

People went home with bigger paychecks.

What’s next in the Democrat media’s campaign to knock Walker out as a contender for the presidency? Has he ever eaten a dog? Oh, that’s right. Eating a dog is a plus for multi-culti Democrats.

I grew up in Reedsburg, WI in the 50s, back when teachers taught and disciplined us as we merited it. I realized how much they cared about each of us students.

Reading about these die-hard union pricks in Reedsburg saddens me. They don't care about their students. The students are just hostages to their demands.

We as a country have fallen badly. Hopefully, the Unions are on their way out. I remember when teachers first walked out in Madison, WI, and I saw that they didn't care about students anymore.

“It’s for our students.”

So, lets give an accounting here...the teacher start at 23, retires at 55 and gets a pension that is (likely) 90% of your highest earning average over the last 5 years. Your day now consists of gardening at your mortgage-free home. You care little for the concerns of your neighbors tax-burden because, well, you can afford your taxes.

Those wonderful “students” referenced? Well, they receive the “benefits” of a recently graduated teacher with 18 HOURS of in-classroom experience and an eye on the 30-years timeline to when s/he can enjoy a pension benefit.

Yeah...it’s for the students as long as the property taxes keep going up to support the pension.

... anything that isn’t closed shop with forced undue-dues collection is “anti-union”. And so the narrative marches on.

See tag...

The unions were about power (a special interest power that funneled money to the democrats). They went all out to keep their power at all costs and would not agree to reasonable requests.

The unions ( and democrats) were bullies and lost big time to Gov Scott Walker and the many Wisconsin taxpayers who STOOD WITH WALKER.

The amount that teachers and state employees paid was much less than what non government workers paid.

I hope that the American taxpayers and voters will find someone like Scott Walker to stand up to the special interest groups in Washington and return government to fairly representing the people and spending our money properly.

For two big, muscular, pot-bellied thugs to threaten to break a kid’s arms over money

It wasn't about money. It was about power. You threatened their hold on the entire industry (whatever it was).

Nope. I quit that job immediately and never took another job in a union industry. When I was an employer, many years later, I never dealt with a union, and I never kept an employee who even mentioned unions. I never fired them for that reason, but other reasons to get rid of the rare union agitators always came up.

I greet this with gales of laughter and cheering! It is about time these communist "public-sector unions" (a misnomer if I ever heard one-- who is on the other side of the negotiation table?) had their backs broken.

I am glad Walker did this in his state. Every governor should do the same. However, that does not mean I want Walker to become Emperor of the US, which is what the position of President is these days.

From the article there seems to be precious little fight left even among remaining union members. It appears the unions' time may just have passed.

As Walker has shown the voters of WI over and over again, when they know the FACTS about the issues and policies, they start to learn that they’ve been spoon-fed lies by the “compassionate” Democrats. And the fact that everything he’s done has helped the people of WI bears that out.

Watch this to learn more.

*sniff* poor unionoids -- forced to live in the real world with the rest of us. Oh, The Humanity! -- "[ Questions linger over Walker’s college exit as he mulls White House bid ]: let's try to kick Walker in the nuts, while we're at it, in this "unbiased" article -- "The [new] law required most public employees to pay more for health insurance and to pay more into retirement savings, resulting in an 8 to 10 percent drop in take-home pay. To help compensate for the loss, Anliker said he took an additional 10-hour-a-week job" -- Sob! Like, like, the REAL world, huh, where people like me have had to pay 30% of their income for medical coverage and don't you DARE tell me that Obamacare works? -- " Dan Balz: Walker’s newfound visibility has exaggerated impact" -- let's kick him in the OTHER nut now -- "‘I don’t make a lot, but we’ll be okay with retirement,’ ” she said he told her. That, she was taught, was the reward for public service in Wisconsin. “Now I’m always nervous that everyone will think they’re moochers,” Brey said. “That I’m a moocher.” -- Of course, the state couldn't possibly pay the lavish pensions they promised but, Hey! That's Walker's fault! -- That's it. I can't read this crap any farther...
