Personally, I hope that if the next POTUS is, through some miracle, a conservative, that he can do three big things that will put our nation “on the road to recovery”.
1) Appoint very conservative justices to the supreme court, so there are no more liberal decisions based on swing votes. A 7-2 conservative majority would be great. (Oddly enough, outside of the presidency, Ted Cruz would be a grand justice, as by all accounts he is a superb legal scholar.)
2) Select a Vice President whose job will be to systematically dismantle entire agencies of government, radically restrict others, fire hundreds of thousands of government employees, break the federal employee unions, and dismantle Social Security and Medicare from the ground up (that is, stop all new enrollments), while turning both Medicaid and Welfare/Food Stamps into clean block grants for the states that cannot be expanded or enlarged without the agreement of each state. Audit the FED as well.
3) Reverse a vast number of executive actions, including the restoration of taken federal lands to the states, outside of military and Indian reservations. Outlaw the appointment of Czars, and work with congress to forbid Presidential Signing Statements, inappropriate executive orders and proclamations, unilateral adoption of “sub treaty” agreements; and strict reinforcement of the War Powers Act and Posse Comitatus Act, and very strict rules on executive privilege.
For his own part, he should send in the State Of The Union in written form, instead of with a wasteful dog and pony show (the last POTUS to do this, just once, was Carter at the peak of his unpopularity); and the POTUS should never leave the US during his term in office. And make it clear that he will refrain from attending or participating in sporting events especially golf, funerals, disasters and other non-presidential activities. That is why he has subordinates.

We need to shut it down and drive a stake in its heart.
