"Time to fess up.
Turns out I have brain cancer that moved there from my lungs. Prognosis is poor. I had brain surgery a couple of weeks ago.
Of course, being me, I intend to fight hard to the very end, and beat the odds. I may well be around for harvest season this year. That is my intent. Normal prognosis is in weeks.
I've held off on bringing this up on FR for several reasons. But the time to bring it up is now.
Consider this my opus. It's as close as I'm going to get to giving one.
I really want to thank Jim for giving us a forum. Jim, you do good work. Thanks."

He has loaned us Johnny, and JRandom, I want you to know (I've probably told you this a number of times over the years), that your posts have been a guiding inspiration and really, really helped me to understand certain political realities that I might well never have grasped if not for your consistent, gentle, firm, reasoned eloquent posts over the years.

So so true ... I have a short list of a dozen or so FReepers whose posts I habitually peruse in-forum (click on their screen name and then see what they've been up to!) because what they have to say is consistently enlightening and valuable and interesting. Johnny has long been at the top of that short list (no offense, Windy!! *ducking* obviously you're on it, duh!!!). Many times I've referred other posters who haven't quite figured out certain principles or concepts, to "Go read JRandom Freeper's posts online -- he explains it better than anyone."
I am heartbroken and weeping ... and trusting that the Almighty knows what He is doing has has great plans. But I'm praying that He will heal Johnny and let us have him for awhile longer ...
My prayers go out for you, our beloved freeper friend, Johnny. We have learned so much from you and received such encouragement. Our prayers are that God will grant you more time to minister to all of us here as well as to your family. Truly, you are a great Texan and a wonderful cook! I now live 40 minutes from Johnny. My significant other and I are helping Johnny as he needs us. He also has a daughter and brother who will help.
I have spoken to Windflier and Kartographer and will keep them advised on Johnny’s condition. I’m sure Windflier will keep this thread updated as we go along this path.
Have also spoken with Jim Robinson and will keep him updated. Johnny’s virtual home is Free Republic. He is also my dear friend.

Johnny, you are in our prayers. Fight hard. I have a good friend who beat this back and you can too.
Prayers Up! also check out www.paudarco.com use the extract from GNC, Whole Foods or such. Many ‘terminal’ lives saved. I used it and my radiation therapist agreed it can be very useful. Whenever someone says the “C” word o me I say pau d’arco.
