NOAA reports Earth had second warmest January on record in 2015
Washington Examiner ^ | Feb. 19, 2015 | Not Specified

In the release its latest monthly analysis of global temperatures on Thursday the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, N.C. reported that, with a combined land and sea average global surface temperature deviation of 1.39 degrees Fahrenheit above the 20th century average, 2015 had the second warmest January on record. The year 2007 still holds the record for warmest January since records started in 1880.

Earlier in the month the Japan Meteorological Agency released similar results, with 2015 tying 2002 and 2007 for the warmest January on record according to JMA data. The JMA uses 1981 to 2010 global average surface temperatures as a baseline average.

In a breakdown between land and sea global surface averages, January was the 2nd warmest month for average land surface temperature (2.57 degrees Fahrenheit above the 20th century average). Meanwhile the month was the 3rd warmest on record for average ocean surface temperature (0.95 degrees Fahrenheit above the 20th century average). The northern hemisphere combined land and sea global surface average temperature was the 2nd highest ever recorded while the southern hemisphere combined land and sea global surface average temperature was the 7th highest ever recorded.

I’m sure the “one of the coldest Februarys ever” stories will be appearing courtesy of the NOAA next month.

Right?

It all depends on the measurements that comprise an area much larger than the USA Northeast.

Mostly it depends on placing those little white houses containing temperature sensors on airport aprons, near cooling towers, and barbeque grills. They are faking the data. This is established fact.

Politifact fact-checked the claim that temperature measurements are fabricated: http://www.politifact.com/punditfact/statements/2015/feb/13/dana-perino/fox-news-host-climate-scientists-fabricated-temper/

The "record" goes back about 150 years - accurately for only about 30. Out of 4+ billion years of existence, the last 150 can't be too representative of average conditions.

It would be just a sensible to base your retirement decisions 40 years from now on the next 3 minutes of Facebook stock activity.

Did ya ever wonder how long it would take for massive piles of data and dung to completely obscure reality?

We’re close. Reeeeal close.

Wonder what the temperature was at 5,000 feet in 1880?

What is the correct government approved global temperature average for January?

Also, what about February?

Etc

I wonder how much data they had to chuck to get those results?

NOAA, Asheville, NC, huh?

You mean the town that went 70% for Obama? In the midst of mostly conservative North Carolinians?

Go figure....

I still think that little ball of fire in the sky has a lot to dictate about how warm or cold it is on the planet. Just a casual thought here.

Yes, I realize that. But surely they must have a target of what is a government approved correct temperature for Februarys (all Februarys)

remember politifact and pundifact are sponsored by the Ford Foundation and the Democracy project which are left leaning organizations to say the least. So you can take their conclusions with a large grain of salt.

Check this one: That door swings both ways

I worked in airports for many years. I saw them move the sensor housings from the grassy fields to the tarmacs. My peers saw the same thing in other airports.
