Ron Paul: “Good News” That Secession Is Happening
Buzzfeed ^ | Feb. 19, 2015 | Andrew Kaczynski

Posted on 02/19/2015 4:00:59 PM PST by Mean Daddy

Former Republican presidential candidate and congressman Ron Paul says secession is happening and it’s “good news.” Paul later predicted the states would stop listening to federal laws.

“I would like to start off by talking about the subject and the subject is secession and, uh, nullification, the breaking up of government, and the good news is it’s gonna happen. It’s happening,” Paul, the father of potential Republican presidential candidate Rand Paul, told a gathering at the libertarian Mises Institute in late January. The event Paul was speaking at was titled “Breaking Away: The Case for Secession.”

Paul said secession would not be legislated by Congress, but would be defacto, predicting “when conditions breakdown…there’s gonna be an alternative.”

“And it’s not gonna be because there will be enough people in the U.S. Congress to legislate it. It won’t happen. It will be defacto. Ya know, you’ll have a gold standard when the paper standard fails and we’re getting awfully close to that. And people will have to resort to taking care of themselves. So when conditions breakdown, ya know, there’s gonna be an alternative. And I think that’s what we’re witnessing.”

When they talk about Texas seceding, I always ask “are you gonna deport your 3.2 million Medicare recipients back to the USA?”

Texas, California and New England could be stand alone countries easily. The smaller states could too. Look at Israel 8 million people and they have a pretty good thing going on.

Never thought I’d hear a Congressman say this. America has reached a turning point and it’s anyone’s game.

I don’t agree with most of his positions, but I agree on this one.

I think it’s important that it becomes part of the national dialogue, no matter the source.

WE don’t need to secede - Washington DC has already seceded. They’ve tossed out the Constitution and rule of law. We need to encourage them to go. Not us Constitutionalist Americans.

What you are saying makes no sense.

Sounds like fun, I wish them well.
I would like to see the answer to my question though.

It’s ok to be against secession, you can argue that the USA should remain one nation of 300,000,000 for many good reasons. But it is totally disingenuous to espouse that states cannot operate as independent nations. If Lichtenstein can be sovereign so to can Rhode Island.

Ron Paul It's happening.gif photo: Captain America Ron Paul 2012 Ron_Paul_Captain_America.jpg I subscribe to Reason magazine every so often when they offer it for next to nothing. So it arrives, I try to read it but ... it goes unread. Then I let it expire and the cycle goes on-and-on ... As odd as they are, at least the Liberaltarians are just one party and not a schizophrenic Jekyll & Hyde Republicrat two-faced creature. In any event, it's certainly an odd world when Paul Sr. seems to be making sense. Maybe conservatives' short-term destiny is to throw our lot in with those old hippies? Good night nurse.

I am sure the sovereign nation of Texas can come up with a way of taking care of the health needs of 3.2 million medicare recipients. It’s just an insurance program. The Texas equivalent will probably make more sense and actually work. A freed Texas would be able to actually make it work without the shackles of FedGov. Does that answer your question?

God, I hope so. The Federal Government is out of control and has yanked so much of our freedom away that America is like a ghost of a Constitution we once relied on. Even the Supreme Court doesn't measure anything based on the Constitution. Congress it totally useless. And most branches of the Administration are more communists like than ever before.

Others have said that the world will look very different in maybe a decade or few, with vastly different borders, nations, currencies, alliances, you name it, here, there and everywhere.

In the past, I heard such things and used to laugh and ignore them, but now those ideas seem to be somewhere between possible and likely.

I glanced out my window and what did I see? "Fundamental transformation" meets "coming apart at the seams" sung to the smell of the New World Odor.

The point is secession is a fools wishful thinking, wishful thinking that any state or few states regardless of size could secede and be powerful enough to resist a force to bring them back into the union or survive against the others who would take advantage of that fragmentation. The arrogant democrat south tried that once and now some think that they can try it again and succeed.

The movement should be to dissolve the current administration, our non-representatives and judges; by force if necessary and reestablish the Constitution and a true representative republic under that constitution.

You’re for secession and trying to ward off those who would take it away from you but you’re not for banding together to remove the causes of the secession talk?

Seems some think that they can secede and there will be no sacrifice and hardship that will directly affect them. Effort is better spent retaking the union and the Constitution. There will still be sacrifice and hardship but the result is better than the weak fragmentation of secession of non-contiguous states.

Like I said, I wish them well.

(btw let me know when they have an elected governor, state house majority leader, state senate majority leader or even a serious governor candidate that’s advocating for it)
