Navy Rear Admiral John Kirby, the press secretary of the Pentagon and they guy you always see explaining American military action on television, announced his sudden resignation today, one day after the new Secretary of Defense was sworn into office.

I work in DoD in the acquisition area and I would have heard if he were that kind of a guy. In spite of his desires, Obama actually made a good selection.
Maybe Carter and the Joint Chiefs will stand up to Obama.
I’ve heard that Gen. Dempsey has only put his foot down a couple of times in standing up to the POSCIC..

I always wondered why anyone speaking out against problems/wrongdoing/etc was (Military branch) RETIRED and not someone currently serving.
Now I know why.

General Officer (Flag Officers for the Navy) only can continue to serve IF they are provided an assignment. IF this admiral isn’t immediately given another assignment at his grade...then it is bye bye and retirement.
Asking for his resignation sounds very much like “being relieved of duty.” This career death for a military officer...especially at the general/admiral level.
The new defense secretary can’t even protect his wife against the hands of a serial pervert. How is he going to protect the country?
