Why St. Louis Should Move to Illinois - It doesn’t belong in Missouri anymore
Slate ^ | Feb. 16 2015 | Alec MacGillis

The great city of St. Louis has a major problem with gun violence. Even as homicide rates have continued to decline elsewhere in the country, they have surged in St. Louis, which last year saw a 33 percent rise in killing, to 159 in a city of 318,000. (Note: this does not include the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, which is in St. Louis County, a separate jurisdiction with 1 million people.) Criminologists point to all the usual reasons for the violence: a thriving drug trade, high unemployment among young men, and so on. But a New York Times article on Tuesday noted that St. Louis police are contending with a factor that their counterparts in many other high-crime cities are not: exceedingly lax gun laws.

“At the end of the day, any legislation restricting guns, period, is difficult to do in Missouri, because it’s: ‘I need to be able to carry a gun in St. Louis to defend myself,’ ”

The reason I carry in St Louis, and never enter Illinois period.

And that is why Chicago has such a low murder rate - tight gun laws.

Oops, the opposite is the case.

Liberals - never letting the facts get in the way of their opinions.

Statistically, the black-on-black murder rate is the highest ethnic rate in the US. I wonder if there has been a study that correlates the proportion of blacks in an SMSA with the murder rate. That would be interesting to know.

I live near Chicago. This state has enough crime, and we don’t need another city that has a high crime rate.

St Louis has double Chicago’s murder rate (35 per 100K vs 19 per 100K population). Chicago PD has 50 cops per sq mile. St Louis has 20. I suspect that accounts for the lion’s share of the difference.

Blacks who are, on average, more crime-prone, are 50% of St Louis’s population, but only 33% of Chicago’s population. So that’s another factor accounting for St Louis’s higher murder rate.

The way the Mississippi River tends to meander from its course....it could happen someday.

If I'm not mistaken, the state line is the center of the river..........wherever the river may go.

St Louis should move to Illinois? I’ll go them one better: all the Democrats in St Louis should move to Illinois, preferably to Chicago.

Chicago wouldn’t notice the difference and the murder rate and overall crime rate in St Louis would drop to next to nothing.

Liberalism failed the residents of St. Louis. So let’s give them to Illinois for more of the same.

D E M O G R A P H I C S.

You can’t change the world to make excuses and ignore the problem. Blacks have a culture problem, and it shows up in every statistic liberals whine about. They just refuse to link it to the problems.

A small chunk of Iowa is on the west side of the Missouri River, due to a channel shift.

Though his logic sucks, I like his idea of moving all the libs to the same state(s).

St. Louis would be better off in the long run if they’d blow up that bridge.

Isn’t East St. Louis in Ill (although the two are separated by the Mississippi)? I know that every time I drove through on the interstate, I lock my doors at 70mph. East St. Louis is a nasty, nasty place.

E. St. Louis is a small town (about 27,000), you don't really see it from I-55, just the exit sign, blink and you'll miss it.

82,000 people lived in East St. Louis in 1960.

Then civilization collapsed.

Criminologists point to all the usual reasons for the violence: a thriving drug trade, high unemployment among young men, and so on.

Why don't they point to the most obvious one,... a large population of feral blacks who have been brought up in a criminal, fatherless culture?
