Go live in your perfect world. Idealism is for liberals. Conservatives should understand history and the big pictures.

YOU have choices, WHAT ARE YOU COMPLAINING ABOUT? Go buy organic if you want that as your choice and leave the rest of us our choices. I reather like cheap food.

I repeat to you we have the best food system in the world and history. Read that slowly and let your lips move if that helps.

And if you can’t understand my reference to the healthcare system, again, let your lips more as you read it.

Yawn. Are you through now? Defending that farm income huh? With today's means of rapid transporting even on a global scale there is no need for altering food to last forever which sacrifices taste to achieve it.

Most {but by no means all} food produced simply needs to make it intact from farm, orchards, etc, to the processor. That system worked well for decades. Two major companies in my area built fortunes on it. Bush Brother and Stokley canneries. Stokley was actually a family in East Tennessee which operated a major cannery before being sold.

Some canneries still do it fairly well such as Allens in Arkansas. Best buy for the buck IMO quality wise in commercial canned food.

But on a raw produce level hitting the stores today the produce overall is far lower grade quality in taste and I'm certainly not the only poster who has said as much on this thread now am I?

If I had land suitable I'd buy some Heirloom seeds and grow my own food. But I have my own food source from wildlife if needed.

Man has reached a point where some healthy caution is needed when screwing around with our food chain. Hybrids for example have screwed up things in ways we may not recover what was lost. Hybrid fish for example have done lots of damage that and reckless importing of both plant and fish. Carp, Gar, etc are not native fish. And some hybrids have wreaked havoc on lake eco systems. Also as I pointed out the importing of the Chinese Chestnut which most likely was for mass production and genetics purposes killed out the largest trees in eastern USA. Trees so large one tree could supply lumber for an entire large house to be built and likely a barn as well. The economical damage cost well beyond any short term gains that experiment produced.

Who do you think is the best creator? Man or GOD? Who knows the sciences of our food chain best? Man or GOD? What is going on today in the name of agriculture is merely seeing which corporations control the nations food supply. He who controls the seeds and how they mutate controls the food supply. The best win/win in their eyes is plants that produce seeds with do not reproduce. Now there is a disaster waiting to happen.

The Heirloom seed industry may well be what determines long term survival and saving our national food supply in the end if catastrophe hits. I'm not a tree hugging eco nut. But I oppose some of what is going on in labs dealing with plants we eat the same way I oppose cloning of any animal. Would I want to eat a cloned animal or one stuffed full of growth hormones? No! Will some people bypass ethics and caution for a buck? You betcha they will.

In my area one man used to have embalming fluid put in meat specifically poultry. How do I know? Well two ways. For one the stench would make a person sick when it was cooking. The other is my Mom fifty years ago went too that store chain to hunt boxes to help someone move. In the back of the store beside the meat department she found a box with a local mortuary name on the shipping label and the word Formaldehyde on the box. But hey he was justified because by golly his chickens stayed fresh a lot longer. No spoiled chickens from his store No Sir Indeed. LOL. The old coot who did it is long dead and his stores closed decades ago.
